Job Summary

The Control Room Operator reports to the Shift Manager and plays a critical role in monitoring tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations tunnel systems and emergency tracking systems. This position serves as a central communication point during production activities ensuring that any abnormal conditions incidents or emergencies are promptly identified communicated and escalated in accordance with established procedures.

This position requires excellent communication skills strong attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor operating parameters for two (2) Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) through the control room systems.
  • Monitor tunnel infrastructure systems for two (2) tunnels including:
    • Ventilation systems and airflow
    • Tunnel lighting
    • Emergency box alarms and notifications
  • Monitor emergency tracking systems including the location of personnel and assets within the tunnels and TBM work areas.
  • Work closely with the Shift Manager Shift Superintendent and TBM Operators to identify communicate and report abnormal operating conditions or system alarms.
  • Coordinate communications between management supervisors crews and other stakeholders during operational events or incidents.
  • Follow and implement emergency response procedures in the event of accidents fires medical emergencies equipment failures or other critical situations.
  • Maintain continuous availability throughout the shift to respond to phone calls radio communications and operational inquiries.
  • Assist in documenting incidents observations and operational communications as required.
  • Support the safe and efficient operation of tunneling activities by ensuring timely reporting and escalation of issues.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent; related technical or operational experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights weekends and holidays as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies or high-pressure situations.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with monitoring and control systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe productive and team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience in tunneling mining construction industrial operations or control room environments is considered an asset.
