The Team Youll Work With

Youll be joining our Carta Law team specifically within the Contracts - North Americas function.

Our Contracts team manages the full lifecycle of commercial contracts for clients from first review through to execution. Youll be the direct day-to-day contact for sophisticated investment fund and asset manager clients working alongside fellow lawyers and paralegals. This team delivers high volumes of pre-M&A contract work at speed supported by AI-backed tools including Cartas proprietary platform Ava.

  • Negotiate and manage high volumes of pre-M&A contracts including NDAs confidentiality agreements NRLs joinders and engagement letters directly liaising with counterparties and adhering to agreed turnaround times
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients building trusted advisor relationships with sophisticated investment funds and asset managers
  • Maintain and update client playbooks on an ongoing basis ensuring consistency and quality across all contract negotiations
  • Collaborate with and mentor junior lawyers and paralegals reviewing their work and contributing to a high-performing team culture
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Cartas legal technology suite identifying ways to innovate using AI-backed tools

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Commercially minded and client-focused. You communicate legal advice crisply and concisely building strong relationships with sophisticated financial services clients.
  • Experienced in transactional law. You have 6-8 years of post law school corporate or transactional experience with a track record of independently negotiating pre-M&A contracts (NDAs NRLs joinders engagement letters).
  • Familiar with financial services. You have experience working with asset managers investment banks or other financial services firms and understand their expectations.
  • Law Degree and licensed to practice. You are licensed to practice law in the Americas (US/Canada).
  • Tech-savvy and adaptable. You are comfortable working with and evolving a legal technology suite (e.g. AI tools HighQ) and an interest in legal tech or AI is a strong plus.
  • A self-starter who owns their work. You thrive in a fast-paced environment prioritize effectively and are always looking for ways to improve and innovate.

Salary

Cartas compensation package includes a market competitive salary equity for all full time roles exceptional benefits and for applicable roles commissions plans. Our expected cash compensation (salary commission if applicable) range for this role is:

  • $157600 - $197000 CAD in Toronto

We are hiring for multiple levels and locations so final offers may vary from the amounts listed based on geography experience and expertise and other factors.
