Location: Prince George or Edmonds BC
Work schedule: Hybrid - up to 2 days in office a week with 3-5 site visits per year across BC
Duration: 2026/07/13 - 2027/01/16
Max INC Rate: $75.12/
Max T4 Rate: $62.08/

Role Description

The Construction Manager Level 1 leads the construction of medium projects with medium to high complexity in support of completing projects safely with quality within budget and on time.

Experience and Role Accountabilities

• A minimum five (5) years of construction management experience or equivalent.
• Manage the allocation of materials financial and human resources by using excellent technical skills in construction methodologies estimating and contract management in support of delivering quality projects safely within budget and on time.
• Ensure work site safety by prioritizing the safe execution of work by performing and giving feedback on Safe Work Observations using excellent knowledge in safety standards and regulations to improve BC Hydros safety performance.
• Develop mitigation plans by identifying analyzing and monitoring risks for effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to stakeholder engagement by using excellent skills in communication negotiation and persuasive influencing so that projects are planned and implemented successfully.
• Respond appropriately to internal and third-party construction inquiries using good working knowledge of project management engineering and BC Hydro policies and procedures to maintain positive collaborative relationships with stakeholders and First Nations.

Education and Skills

• Bachelors degree in Civil Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Good working knowledge of project management
• Excellent working knowledge of safety standards and regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and WorkSafe Regulations
• Advanced English skills for professional environment written and spoken

• Proven ability to lead and influence in complex multi-employer construction environments.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and technical direction to construction professionals.
• Experience implementing or improving operational processes and technologies to enhance business performance.
• Strong written verbal and presentation communication skills adaptable to audiences from field staff to senior management.
• Proven experience organizing modeling and translating data into actionable insights and strategic reporting.
• Strong leadership relationship management coaching and mentoring capabilities.
• Strong project management organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong presentation and negotiation abilities.
• Class 5 Drivers License in good standing.

Work Assignment Requirements

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide project management for multidisciplinary teams consisting of BC Hydro employees consultants and contractors.
• Manage program oversight of consultants and contractors ensuring effective coordination with internal clients and stakeholders.
• Support the implementation and sustainment of mandatory requirements and programs related to safety environment and other corporate initiatives.
• Act as a trusted advisor to Senior Management field personnel staff and contractors to influence project performance.
• Lead the development implementation and sustainment of Capital Construction programs and initiatives including contractor safety and high-risk work controls.
• Lead and facilitate Construction Management forums training sessions onboarding and bootcamps (e.g. Prime Contractor Qualified Coordinator).
• Identify gaps in systems program implementation or training and collaborate with Project Senior Leadership to address them.
