Job Summary

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Support Worker supports adults with diverse abilities to build independence confidence and quality of life through person-centred supports meaningful activities and community inclusion.

Working in a day program setting youll create a welcoming engaging and supportive environment where individuals can develop life skills build relationships and participate in activities both on-site and throughout the community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships and support individuals to achieve their personal goals through recreational social and community-based activities.
  • Develop implement and monitor individualized support plans in collaboration with individuals families caregivers and other professionals.
  • Assist with personal care mobility medication administration and activities of daily living as needed.
  • Support food preparation while promoting safe food handling practices.
  • Recognize and respond to health safety and behavioural concerns using de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Transport individuals to community activities and appointments using agency vehicles as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with the program team to deliver safe high-quality person-centred services.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Compensation range: $25.95$29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per the Collective Agreement)
    Additional wage increases are anticipated in the coming months and are not reflected in the salary range above.

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

  • Community or School Support Worker Diploma or Certificate
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with persons with cognitive physical and other diverse abilities with varying and complex needs
  • Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

  • Empathy patience and emotional intelligence when supporting individuals with diverse abilities.
  • Critical thinking sound judgment and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work independently prioritize competing demands and manage time effectively.
  • Collaborative team player who builds positive working relationships with colleagues families and community partners.
  • Commitment to person-centred trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.
  • Commitment to promoting the rights dignity independence and inclusion of people with diverse abilities.
  • Ability to safely transport individuals using agency vehicles including an activity bus.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class 4 Unrestricted DL and safe driving record (abstract)
  • Applicants with a valid Class 5 Drivers License will be considered for this temporary position; however a Class 4 Unrestricted Drivers License is required to be eligible for permanent opportunities in this role.
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C Mandt-RC Safe Food Handling Medication Management Anti-Bullying and Harassment CLBC Privacy
  • Physical requirements of the job include supporting individuals in wheelchairs or walkers lifting transferring using lifts appropriately pushing pulling bending and assisting clients safely in and out of vehicles etc. (Necessary on-the-job training is provided to ensure the safety of the participant and worker.)
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.
  • This job requires union membership with a 1.85% union due deducted from pay.


PROGRAM: Options & Opportunities Program

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: Temporary Full-Time

TERM: 6 months or until the return of the employee

HOURS of WORK: 35 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday daytime schedule

REPORTS TO: O&O Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)

CLOSING ON: Open until a suitable candidate is found
