Hours: Full-time with scheduling in accordance with the Collective Agreement
SUMMARY
The Community Development & Education Worker reports to the Operations Manager and supports the entire centre. This support includes but is not limited to increasing awareness and knowledge of Gilbert Centre within the community using various methods such as social media delivery of training or outreach. This position is front facing with the public and office based. This is a temporary position within our bargaining unit covering a leave of absence expected to run until September 4 2026 with the possibility of extension.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media & Communications
Curate and oversee the organizations social media accounts including content creation scheduling and engagement.
Monitor social media trends and adjust strategies to maximize reach and impact.
Respond to comments and messages on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.
Monitor general info email account and the centres main voicemail and triage information requests.
Presentation Curation & Delivery
Design and deliver educational programs workshops and presentations on HIV/AIDS & HCV prevention treatment and care pathways including safer sex practices.
Provide training and capacity-building support to community partners volunteers and staff on HIV/AIDS & HCV prevention treatment and care pathways including safer sex practices.
Develop and distribute educational materials including brochures pamphlets and online resources as well as safer sex and safer substance use equipment.
Community Building
Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage the community in education treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS & HCV.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners stakeholders and organizations to foster collaboration and support.
Organize and participate in community events health fairs and other activities to promote HIV/AIDS & HCV education testing and treatment services available in Simcoe Muskoka.
Charitable Donner relations and communications
Event Planning & Execution
Plan coordinate and execute community events workshops and campaigns related to HIV/AIDS & HCV education testing and treatment services available in Simcoe Muskoka including but not limited to World AIDS Day and International Harm Reduction Day events and promotion.
Ensure all events are well-organized inclusive and effectively communicate the organizations mission.
Collaborate with other staff and volunteers to ensure successful event execution.
Other Responsibilities
Provide emergency support to Gilbert Centre participants as needed.
Any other duties that may be assigned
Follow all Health & Safety protocols
QUALIFICATIONS
Formal education in a relevant field of study (social science health promotion social work adult education or any related fields) and/or the equivalent combination of education work and lived or living experience.
At least one year experience working in the HIV/STBBI 2S-LGBTQ or health promotion fields is required.
A comfort in working with and an understanding of health and social issues and factors relevant to people living with HIV HCV queer and trans masculine men men who have sex with men 2S-LGBTQ communities people who use drugs people who engage in sex work those experiencing houselessness and newcomers is required.
Comfortable delivering workshops and presentations to audiences of various size on topics such as sexual health HIV HCV substance use safer sex practices etc. is required.
Superior communication skills including written and verbal presentation skills diplomatic and effective liaison and interpersonal skills including proficiency in English is required. French is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to community development engagement accountability practices social justice diversity equity and anti-oppression principles.
Experience overseeing and working with volunteers is an asset.
Ability to speak openly and frankly about sexuality in a sex-positive non-judgmental manner.
Ability to work independently on a flexible schedule and collaboratively within and across teams is required.
Excellent computer and presentation curation skills.
Possess a valid G drivers license a clean drivers abstract and meet approval requirements of our corporate vehicle insurance policy OR use of your own reliable personal vehicle (mileage to be reimbursed).
Ability to respond quickly to emergency including opioid overdose is required
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Rate:$25.03/hour
Hours:1.0 FTE
Benefits:6% in lieu of benefits during temporary posting
Paid Time Off:3 weeks vacation 3 weeks sick leave and 1 week float (starting entitlements pro-rated to start date)
Schedule:Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance

Working Conditions
May involve walking or standing for periods of time during community-based activities events partner-agency visits or collaborative outreach activities.
Lift up to 20 lbs.
May involve standing for extended periods during events tabling or community-based activities.
May occasionally require carrying program materials harm reduction supplies or educational resources with appropriate support and equipment.
Frequent computer use.
Some evening and weekend work may berequiredin accordance withthe Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The position may involve travel across Simcoe Muskoka and work in community-based and partner-agency settings including shelters drop-ins correctional settings community events pop-up clinics and outreach sites as appropriate and in collaboration with existing outreach programs and partners.
