The Department

The Department of Nursing Education and Health Studies offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is housed in the state of the art Health Education Centre located inside the award-winning Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.


The Role

The Nursing Education and Health Studies department is seeking a Clinical and Community Learning Faculty member for a full-time sessional 10.5-month sessional appointment August 15 2026 - June 30 2027. This is a 35-hour per week position.

This specialized faculty role is responsible for advancing clinical and community-based learning across School of Health programs. The position provides academic leadership in aligning practice-based education with curriculum accreditation standards regulatory requirements and student learning successful candidate will focus on integrating clinical education systems with academic expectations ensuring that placement models site utilization and capacity support high-quality practice-based learning experiences. The role includes targeted instructional activities related to transition to practice interpretation of curriculum in practice environments and student readiness for clinical and community learning including teaching selected clinical seminars.

Key responsibilities include leading the coordination and academic alignment of clinical and community placements ensuring they meet curriculum outcomes student readiness and professional standards while addressing placement challenges and supporting future program planning. The role also provides instructional leadership in practice-based learning supports student readiness and success collaborates with faculty and practice partners and contributes to quality assurance accreditation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Nursing or a related field (Masters in progress may be considered).
  • Current registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Registered Nurse in Alberta and in good standing with the applicable regulatory body.
  • Recent clinical practice experience (within the past five years) in Alberta.
  • Demonstrated experience using contemporary clinical information systems (e.g. Connect Care) in practice settings.
  • Experience in clinical instruction supervision and student evaluation in practice-based learning environments.
  • Strong knowledge of entry-to-practice competencies accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for nursing education.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Ability to integrate academic and clinical learning environments effectively.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with faculty students and external partners.
  • Capacity to exercise sound academic judgment in placement planning and student readiness.
  • Commitment to student success professional practice standards and continuous improvement in clinical education.

Candidates must be registered have a current practice permit and be in good standing with the applicable health professional regulatory college in accordance with the Health Professions Act. The candidates who are notified for an interview will be required to provide their registration and practice permit at the time of the interview.
