Employment Term: Contract term August 4 to June 25 with the possibility of renewal. Full-time hours (35 hours/ week)

General Description:
The Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) is seeking one (1) passionate and learner-centred CAEC Preparation Instructor to lead the delivery of our Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) Preparation Program.
This full-time position is dedicated to supporting adult learners preparing to write the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC). The successful candidate will provide individualized instruction in Reading Writing Mathematics Science and Social Studies while creating a welcoming inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment that supports learner confidence retention and success.
Working closely with the Education Program Manager the instructor will coordinate learner intake academic assessment individualized learning plans ongoing learner supports progress monitoring and exam preparation. The instructor will incorporate Indigenous perspectives cultural teachings and strengths-based practices that reflect the values and mission of the Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre while supporting learners from diverse backgrounds.
About the Program
The MNFC CAEC Preparation Program provides flexible adult education for individuals pursuing the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC). The program welcomes learners from all backgrounds and is grounded in a holistic learner-centred approach that recognizes each persons unique educational journey strengths and goals.
Through individualized instruction small-group learning cultural opportunities and wrap-around supports the program helps learners build the knowledge confidence and skills needed to successfully complete the CAEC and pursue employment training apprenticeship or post-secondary education.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learner success by:
- Deliver high-quality instruction in Reading Writing Mathematics Science and Social Studies to prepare adult learners for the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC).
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans that reflect each learners goals strengths learning style and pace.
- Conduct learner intake orientation and academic assessments to determine educational needs and readiness.
- Monitor learner progress provide regular feedback and adjust instructional strategies to support learner success.
- Prepare learners for CAEC testing and coordinate exam readiness scheduling and accommodations where appropriate.
- Create engaging lesson plans learning activities and instructional materials that align with CAEC competencies.
- Foster a welcoming inclusive trauma-informed and culturally responsive learning environment that promotes learner confidence and success.
- Integrate Indigenous perspectives cultural teachings guest speakers Elders and land-based learning opportunities into programming where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Education Program Manager and Education Program Assistant to identify and reduce barriers to learning by connecting participants with available program supports including transportation meals technology adaptive learning tools and community resources.
- Maintain accurate learner files attendance records progress notes assessments and required program documentation.
- Support learner recruitment orientation retention and successful program completion.
- Participate in program evaluation continuous quality improvement and reporting requirements.
- Build positive relationships with community organizations educational institutions and service providers that support adult learners.
- Participate in staff meetings professional development opportunities and organizational events.
- Adhere to all Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre policies procedures and values.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring the education experience and personal qualities needed to create a supportive inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment including:
- Bachelor of Education or post-secondary education in Adult Education Education Social Sciences or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years of experience teaching or facilitating learning with adult learners.
- Experience delivering individualized instruction and developing learner-centred education plans.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and differentiated instructional practices.
- Experience supporting learners with diverse educational backgrounds learning needs and life experiences.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) or willingness to complete required training.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating inclusive culturally responsive and trauma-informed learning environments.
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories cultures and ways of knowing with the ability to respectfully incorporate Indigenous perspectives into programming.
- Excellent communication organizational interpersonal and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and digital learning platforms.
- Experience maintaining confidential learner records and preparing program documentation.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification is considered an asset.
- Nova Scotia Tutor and Instructor Training Certification is considered an asset.
- Must be able to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
