Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer

Job Summary
The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer is responsible for the design development programming testing commissioning and continuous improvement of Building Automation Systems for residential commercial and multi-residential buildings.
The successful candidate will collaborate with management Project Managers Software Developers Electricians and Field Technicians to design and implement scalable high-performance BAS solutions that improve building efficiency reliability and occupant comfort.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop Building Automation System (BAS) platforms.
Design the overall BAS architecture and communication network.
Develop HVAC control sequences and programming standards.
Program BAS controllers gateways edge devices and supervisory systems.
Create system graphics dashboards alarms trend logs reports and analytics.
Design remote monitoring and cloud-based building management solutions.
Select and evaluate controllers sensors actuators VFDs communication hardware and other field devices.
Integrate third-party equipment including:
o Boilers
o Chillers
o Cooling Towers
o Heat Pumps
o Fan Coil Units
o Air Handling Units (AHUs)
o Make-Up Air Units (MAUs)
o Pumps
o Domestic Hot Water Systems
o Exhaust and Supply Fans
o Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
o Lighting Control Systems
Develop communication interfaces using industry-standard protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.
Lead the startup commissioning testing and troubleshooting of BAS installations.
Provide technical support to installation teams throughout project execution.
Develop energy optimization strategies for commercial institutional and multi-residential facilities.
Implement fault detection alarm management diagnostics and predictive maintenance strategies.
Prepare engineering documentation sequences of operation and as-built documentation.
Evaluate and implement emerging BAS technologies IoT solutions and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechatronics Engineering Computer Engineering Software Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of Building Automation Systems engineering experience.
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and building mechanical equipment.
Experience designing complete Building Automation Systems.
Experience programming BAS controllers.
Strong working knowledge of Niagara Framework (N4) and Noah Controls.
Experience with BACnet Modbus and IP networking.
Experience commissioning and troubleshooting BAS systems.
Excellent analytical communication and problem-solving skills.
Valid Ontario drivers license.
Preferred Experience
Extensive experience integrating condominium commercial or institutional HVAC equipment into Building Automation Systems including boilers chillers cooling towers heat pumps make-up air units (MAUs) fan coil units domestic hot water systems pumps variable frequency drives (VFDs) exhaust and supply fans pressure control systems and other central mechanical equipment.
Strong understanding of HVAC control sequences energy optimization and mechanical systems commonly found in high-rise residential and commercial buildings.
Experience developing web-based dashboards and user interfaces.
Knowledge of cloud-based building management platforms.
Experience integrating IoT devices and cloud services.
Experience with analytics fault detection diagnostics and energy reporting.
Understanding of cybersecurity principles for BAS networks.
Experience with machine learning or AI applications for building optimization is considered an asset.
