The Bridge Engineer reportsdirectly to the Chief of Infrastructure and Asset Management/ EngineeringManager and participates in key senior Management Team initiatives as Bridge Engineer is responsible for providing engineering input advice anddirection to maintain the safety of the two bridges approaches and relatedfacilities. They work collaboratively effectively and cooperatively in acoordinated manner with the senior bridge personnel to deliver projects as pertheir defined scope the specified quality on time and on budget. This role isaccountable for preparing and issuing requests for proposals (RFPs) tenderdocuments and other documents required for the selection and onboarding ofconsultants and contractors as well as overseeing the ongoing relationshipthroughout the life of a project. This position also provides guidancecoaching and mentoring to co-operative engineering students and support toother HHB departments.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
- Provideengineering advice and technical direction to support the safety reliabilityand long-term performance of HHBs bridges approaches ancillary structuresand related facilities.
- Developtechnical work plans scopes investigations analyses preliminary designsrisk assessments cost estimates and schedules for infrastructure projects.
- Assessbridge conditions and recommend repair rehabilitation retrofit or replacementsolutions that support sound asset management and lifecycle planning.
- Prepareand review engineering reports designs specifications tender documentsrequests for proposals and other technical procurement materials.
- Supportconsultant and contractor selection contract administration change ordersproject documentation and technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitorproject scope quality risks schedules and budgets in collaboration withsenior engineers the Project Management Office consultants and contractors.
- Conductsite inspections and support investigations related to structural incidentsdeficiencies unusual events and bridge asset condition.
- Useinspection maintenance and Computerized Maintenance Management System data toinform evidence-based decisions on infrastructure health risk and priorities.
- Buildeffective working relationships with internal teams consultants contractorsregulatory agencies and technical stakeholders.
- Promotea strong safety culture by ensuring work follows occupational health and safetyrequirements HHB policies and safe work practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in CivilEngineering.
- Five to seven years ofrelevant engineering experience.
- Member in good standing oreligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
- Strong knowledge ofstructural engineering principles infrastructure maintenance constructionpractices and project delivery.
- Experience preparingtechnical reports specifications scopes of work estimates schedules tenderdocuments and requests for proposals.
- Strong analyticalproblem-solving judgement and communication skills with the ability topresent clear technical recommendations.
- Proficiency with standarddata management tools and engineering-related software.
- Valid Canadian Class 5Drivers Licence.
- Project managementexperience including the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinatewith cross-functional teams.
- Assets include specializedknowledge of long-span or suspension bridges project management training oraccreditation and experience in a complex public sector Crown corporation orsimilar environment.
Position details:
- This is a Full-time PermanentNon-union position working 35 hours per week Monday to Friday.
- On-call response or extendedhours will be required based on operational demands.
- The annual salary range for this position is $91813 -$114766.

Working conditions:
Primarilyoffice-based with occasional site visits to bridges construction sites andindustrial environments. Site work may involve exposure to weather traffichazards noise active construction areas safety-sensitive locations work atheights and work in confined spaces. Use of requiredpersonal protective equipment including fall-protection equipment whereapplicable and adherence to HHB safety procedures are mandatory. Therole requires strong attention to detail when reviewing drawings reportstechnical documentation inspection findings and project deliverables. Occasionaldeadlines project pressures safety-sensitive decisions on-call requirementsor travel may be required to address site issues. Safety training and specialized PPE will be provided by theemployer.
