The Opportunity
Are you passionate about driving innovation and reliability in critical infrastructure The Automation Operations Engineering team within TC Energys Canada Operations Technical Services department is seeking a problem-solving professional to provide exceptional engineering support to our Canada Gas Operations teams. We play a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of compression and measurement facility assets delivering the energy that powers communities every day.
As part of our team youll help enhance industrial control systems for remote monitoring and control solve operational challenges and drive improvements that strengthen safety cybersecurity and reliability. Through our 24/7 on-call support youll also support field specialists and technicians in maintaining safe and reliable operations.

What youll do
- Support field operations and specialist teams in diagnosing and resolving operational issues related to industrial control systems while balancing safety regulatory operational and cost requirements.
- Participate in a rotational on-call program (approximately 1 week in 8) to support after-hours control system issues.
- Use asset and operational data to proactively identify and address automation system reliability and availability risks.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate maintenance and support activities.
- Troubleshoot secure network communications and resolve data transmission issues between field and data center systems.
- Lead automation-related risk assessments and contribute to multidisciplinary risk assessments in accordance with Operational Risk Management processes.
- Design develop and implement automation software and HMI changes in compliance with Management of Change (MOC) Practice of Engineering (POE) and other applicable requirements.
- Develop project scopes for facility improvement initiatives based on asset condition lifecycle strategies engineering standards and operational needs.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards specifications and operational practices through lessons learned and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering (or equivalent).
- Must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer (P. Eng).
- 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Self-driven learner who actively engages team members for guidance and mentorship.
- Collaborative and results-orientated.
- Strong communication skills ensuring peers and leaders understand tactical and strategic goals progress value and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing automation and control system engineering deliverables including control narratives cause-and-effect diagrams control panel designs and system testing.
- Experience with industrial control system platforms such as Rockwell ControlLogix Emerson ControlWave Micro Emerson RX3i AVEVA System Platform (Wonderware) and AVEVA PI System.
- Knowledge of industrial cyber security standards and design principles.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial networks including firewalls and switches.
- Experience developing and maintaining scripts to automate Windows-based system tasks.
- Experience with natural gas pipeline facilities gas turbines and other rotating equipment.
