Overview
St. Francis Xavier University one of Canadas leading universities and most prominent athletics programs is seeking a Staff Athletic Therapist to join our passionate Athletics & Recreation team. Reporting to the Head Athletic Therapist the Staff Athletic Therapist is responsible for assisting with the assessment and rehabilitation of varsity student-athletes and their injuries along with providing medical coverage at varsity events. The incumbent will assist with pre and post practice and game preparation supervising student therapists; and effectively communicate with medical personnel colleagues and coaches. This position requires the expertise of a trained and accredited athletic therapist.
The incumbent will comply with all CATA AUS U SPORTS and STFX University regulations and policies and the staff athletic therapist is expected to represent STFX University to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct. This will be done in a context where we commit to providing the premier student-athlete experience in Canada which focuses on developing and inspiring Leaders & Champions in academics athletics citizenship and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment and rehabilitation of varsity athletes and their injuries;
- Provision of medical & emergency coverage of varsity training camps practices and games;
- Provision of medical coverage for varsity home and away AUS and U SPORTS playoffs;
- Assisting with pre-practice pre-game varsity athlete preparation & post-game;
- Daily communication with coaches & ongoing communication with varsity doctors;
- Assisting with supervision of student therapists and Human Kinetics clinical volunteers;
- Assisting in assessment and treatment of athletes with concussions & return to play;
- Record keeping of all athletic and clinical treatments;
- Daily upkeep of athletic therapy clinic and other departmental tasks.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in athletic therapy kinesiology or related health field with a minimum of one year experience working as an athletic therapist;
- Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) who has maintained status with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association;
- Advanced First Aid training AED and CPR certification;
- Sport First Responder and additional certifications in the health care field are beneficial;
- Trustworthy and able to develop positive and professional working relationships;
- Energetic enthusiastic and motivated to do the job;
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- A flexible approach to work is required as attendance is required at select varsity games (evenings and weekends) as well as an ability to travel with teams when required;
- Successful completion of all STFX and AUS safe sport requirements and certifications.
