Job Summary

Problem
Repetitively detecting any load on the MOVU atlas shuttle regardless of shape or texture.

Main issues
- Different load footprints make it difficult to determine one standardised load detection solution
- Usage of multiple sensors is possible but quickly becomes expensive
- Environment is harsh: -25C till 50C dirty dusty ...
- Load bottoms may be perforated or reflective making it hard to detect them repetitively

Solution idea
The idea is to install an array of low cost loadcells underneath the treadplates of the shuttle in order to detect if a load is present on the shuttle and if it is stationary. The object of the thesis is:
- Determine if the solution is viable
- Develop a robust proof of concept keeping cost and manufacturability in mind.
- Develop a specific calculation PCB bringing together all load cells with CAN or IO-link communication towards the shuttle controller.
- Determine the limits of the application and define logical next steps.
