We are looking for an experienced data engineerto join an innovative data platformteam within a leading media organization based in Brussels Belgium.

This freelance opportunity is ideal for a cloud-focused data engineering professional with expertise in AWS ELT pipelines and modern data platform technologies. You will help expand and optimize a cloud-native data lake build scalable data pipelines and support analytics and business intelligence initiatives that drive data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Design develop test and maintain scalable data management systems.
• Build and expand cloud-based data lake solutions.
• Develop robust ELT pipelines for integrating data from multiple source systems.
• Design and implement data pipelines for analytics and business intelligence use cases.
• Transform and model data using DBT.
• Monitor and improve data quality across the platform.
• Contribute to the continuous optimization of existing data platform components.
• Apply data governance principles to ensure reliable and secure data management.
• Work collaboratively within a cross-functional data & AI team.
• Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to business stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years experience as a data engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Experience with:
  • EC2
  • ECS
  • Lambda
  • S3
  • RDS
• Strong Python development skills.
• Excellent SQL knowledge.
• Experience building ELT and data pipeline solutions.
• Knowledge of cloud data architecture and modern data platforms.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in Agile environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Apache Spark.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
• Experience using DBT for data transformation.
• Knowledge of Go.
• Experience with AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with AWS big data services including Glue Athena EMR Kinesis and SageMaker.
• Experience with AWS messaging and integration services (SNS SQS API Gateway).
• Experience with AWS security services including IAM and KMS.
• Experience within the media industry.
• AWS Solutions Architect Certification.
• Dutch language proficiency (CEFR C2).
