About the opportunity

The Workers Consultant is required to utilise their expertise and knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and the Accident Compensation Act to assist workers who have lodged a conciliation requested with the Accident Compensation Conciliation Service (ACCS) concerning a decision made by an agent self-insurer or employer in relation to their workers compensation claim.

Key accountabilities

  • Educate workers in relation to the conciliation process.
  • Provide technical expertise to workers in relation to the compensation entitlement matters that are the subject of the dispute.
  • Analyse and evaluate relevant documentation with a view to identifying a plausible argument(s) in support of the workers contention.
  • Liaise with workers in advance of the scheduled conciliation (by telephone and in person on occasion) to canvass the issue(s) in dispute the Workers contention(s) what the worker seeks from the process possible outcomes options to resolve the dispute and consequence of not resolving the dispute and the conciliation process generally.
  • Where appropriate identify and seek relevant medical information from the workers medical practitioner(s) with written authority from the workers in a timely manner (both to promote early resolution of the dispute and to ensure the documentation is available at the conciliation conference).
  • Consult and liaise with the workers legal representative (where applicable) during the dispute resolution process to ensure all relevant information is identified and collated during the dispute resolution process.
  • Liaise with ACCS agent or self-insurer to identify and discuss issues and explore whether there is prospect of the worker achieving a negotiated resolution of the dispute prior to the conciliation conference.
  • Attend conciliation conferences in the capacity of Workers assistant. This will require regular travel to regional areas throughout Victoria.

About you

You are an experienced workers compensation professional with the ability to manage highly emotional and conflictdriven situations. Your strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills enable you to build trust with stakeholders while your excellent organisational ability allows you to effectively prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines.

Additionally you will posses the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in dispute/conflict resolution
  • Exceptional communication interpersonal negotiation and presentation skills
  • The ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment
  • Ability to undertake effective research and analyse material
  • Extensive technical knowledge of the Accident Compensation Act and relevant claims procedures and case law
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or extensive knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and the Accident Compensation Act.
  • Must hold a current Victorian drivers licence and the ability to travel across regional Victoria to conciliation conferences as required
