About the role

We are looking for a Specialist Safety to provide technical knowledge governance and continuous improvement support across safety standards critical risk management and operational learning. The role supports work health and safety compliance and uses data insights and industry practice to identify improvement opportunities.

Reporting to the Principal Safety you will work with operational and technical teams to strengthen governance monitoring reporting and safety management systems. This is an opportunity to influence practical safety outcomes across a complex large-scale operating environment.

What youll be doing

Reporting to the Principal Safety and working across Safety Technical and Assurance operational teams and functional partners you will be:

Govern safety compliance and legislative codes of practice by monitoring requirements and embedding changes into processes and documentation.

Manage recurring safety governance and reporting processes including accurate coordination stakeholder engagement and compliance activities.

Coordinate safety governance forums reviews analysis and recommendations that support informed decisions.

Monitor critical risk control effectiveness through assurance activities governance reporting and performance analysis.

Support the development and maintenance of safety management systems standards documentation and processes.

Provide subject matter advice on safety and work health and safety requirements to operational and technical teams.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives and communicate positive safety practices across teams and communities of practice.

Collaborate with regulators industry bodies technical partners and education institutions to incorporate relevant practice and learning.

Required for Success

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.

A tertiary qualification in health and safety or a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety with substantial relevant technical experience.

Sound understanding of safety management systems and their practical application in a complex operational environment.

Demonstrated capability in safety governance compliance assurance reporting and critical risk control monitoring.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capability including the use of data and insights to identify improvement opportunities.

Experience consulting advising and influencing leaders peers and external stakeholders.

Helpful for Success

Knowledge of Rio Tinto safety fundamentals fatal risk prevention or critical risk standards and practices.

Experience facilitating working groups governance forums or cross-functional safety initiatives.

Change leadership planning and stakeholder engagement experience.
