Software Engineer – UNSW Faculty of Engineering

The Opportunity:
The Software Engineer position within the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW is responsible for the development maintenance and modernisation of the Schools digital infrastructure research and educational includes Linux-based servers and tools that support teaching learning and research. The role directly contributes to the reliability scalability and innovation of the Schools technical ecosystem. The role of Software Engineer reports to the Deputy Head of School (Education) and has no direct reports.

• Salary Level 7: $113926 - $123302 per annum 17% superannuation
• Full Time (35 hours)
• Continuing position
• Location: Kensington Sydney Australia (on campus attendance 3 days a week minimum required)

• A degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong experience in backend development and systems engineering.
• Proficiency in Linux system administration and server-side development.
• Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g. Python Bash) and infrastructure tools.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git/GitLab) and CI/CD practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail for deliverables produced.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
• Experience in a higher education or research environment.
• Familiarity with containerisation (e.g. Docker Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure).
• Knowledge of educational platforms (e.g. Moodle GIVE) and LMS integrations.
