The Opportunity

At KBR we deliver science technology and engineering solutions that support critical Defence capability. We are seeking a talented and driven Software Engineer to join our high-performing team focused on the modernisation and enhancement of Electronic Warfare (EW) systemscapabilities essential to protecting Australias national interests.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation and purpose contributing to cutting-edge solutions that directly support frontline operations and Defence readiness. As a Software Engineer you will design develop and maintain high-performance applications across complex Defence environments. Working across the full software lifecycle you will contribute to solving challenging engineering problems from data integration and backend architecture to user interface development and algorithm design.

Responsibilities:

• Design develop implement and maintain software for scientific and engineering applications
• Define system and software requirements and translate customer needs into technical solutions
• Work within Agile environments using tools such as Jira Confluence and Git/Bitbucket
• Contribute across full-stack development (GUI backend services databases APIs containerisation)
• Identify technical challenges and deliver effective solutions in evolving and ambiguous environments
• Collaborate with engineering SME and project teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Ensure compliance with Defence standards policies and quality frameworks
• Conduct testing validation and defect resolution activities
• Develop and maintain documentation including software baselines and technical artefacts
• Continuously improve system performance maintainability and scalability

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

• Degree in Software Engineering Computer Science Electronic Engineering or related discipline
• 37 years experience in software development and/or modernisation
• Strong foundation in software engineering principles standards and best practices
• Experience with programming languages such as Python C Java or JavaScript
• Exposure to full-stack development including GUI APIs databases and containerisation (e.g. Docker)
• Experience in Defence and/or Electronic Warfare environments (highly regarded)
• Knowledge of software testing QA and validation processes
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex and evolving requirements
• Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance and Australian citizenship required to be eligible.
