The Senior Project Engineer Mechanical & Piping will play a key role in coordinating and delivering mechanical and piping works across the Alkimos Seawater Alliance project. This position is responsible for ensuring engineering procurement construction and quality activities are executed safely efficiently and in line with project objectives supporting successful delivery on time and within budget.
The Project
The project includes the design construction operation and maintenance of a major desalination plant with first production targeted for 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels a seawater intake system a reverse osmosis desalination plant groundwater systems drinking water storage and pumping infrastructure supported by civil electrical and bulk earthworks.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate and manage mechanical and piping engineering works ensuring alignment with project scope schedule and quality requirements
- Support safe delivery by driving safety initiatives conducting inspections reviewing SWMS and managing subcontractor safety performance
- Lead procurement processes including RFQs evaluation of suppliers and development of delivery strategies
- Develop and review construction methodologies workpacks and temporary works to ensure effective and compliant execution
- Manage project schedules monitor critical path activities and work with planning teams to mitigate risks and maintain milestones
- Oversee construction engineering activities ensuring method statements QA processes and technical requirements are met
- Maintain cost control and forecasting including budget tracking reporting and identifying risks and opportunities
- Utilise digital engineering tools to support planning design coordination and site execution
- Build and lead engineering teams driving performance accountability and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with quality systems including ITPs NCR management and documentation control
Required Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior Project Engineer role within major infrastructure or construction projects (mechanical/piping preferred)
- Strong knowledge of project delivery including engineering coordination procurement construction and commissioning
- Proven ability to manage schedules critical path activities and multi-disciplinary interfaces
- Experience with subcontractor management contract administration and commercial awareness
- Strong capability in cost control forecasting and financial reporting
- Solid understanding of safety environmental and quality management systems
- Experience using digital engineering tools and project systems (e.g. planning software BIM or similar)
- Excellent leadership communication and stakeholder management skills
