Where and how you can work

Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. Its a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate focus and connect.

This role is based in Sydney and were looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

At the moment this role is focused on:

• Powering real-time threat detection by building resilient high-throughput pipelines that turn massive high-velocity security log streams into signals our detection and response capability can act on in near real time - so threats are surfaced and responded to faster.

• Building AI-ready data infrastructure on the semantic layer - designing clean well-modelled governed datasets in our Snowflake warehouse and semantic layer that act as a single trustworthy source of truth for security metrics. This is the foundation that downstream analytics board-level security reporting and AI-powered tooling are built on so reliability and clear definitions matter enormously.

• Enabling security teams to make informed decisions with data - partnering with Security Engineers Platform and Product to build data solutions that go beyond traditional BI dashboards unlocking advanced use cases like UGC entitlement and access patterns and giving teams the right insight at the right time to drive strategic decisions and incident response.

• Engineering at scale - implementing streaming and batch processing architectures that handle petabyte-scale security data while maintaining the query performance critical security workflows depend on.

• Championing reliability and efficiency through comprehensive monitoring automated data quality checks alerting on data SLAs and cost-performance optimisation.

• Building leverage including with AI - creating self-service capabilities so engineering teams can independently generate security insights and using modern AI tooling to build data pipelines and ingestion tools faster while bringing deep technical expertise to the complex security data problems that dont have an off-the-shelf answer.

• You thrive on turning chaotic high-velocity security data into rock-solid systems that keep millions of users secure.

• You know how to build fault-tolerant real-time and batch pipelines using tools like dbt Kafka and modern streaming frameworks.

• You see yourself as an engineer who solves data and analytics problems not just someone who writes SQL. You bring strong SQL skills solid Python experience youre comfortable building software and using AI tooling to do it well and you have a deep appreciation for privacy governance and least privilege principles in security data handling.

• You care deeply about data reliability cost efficiency and observability in security contexts - youre comfortable building alerting for data SLAs.

The Security Insights team sits within Canvas Security & Trust supergroup where we turn complex security data into actionable intelligence that keeps our platform and users secure.

Our mission is simple: make security decisions easy and fast for everyone at Canva by providing the right insights at the right time.

We work hand-in-hand with Security Privacy and Product teams to transform raw security telemetry into clear actionable insights and solutions and were investing in real-time detection and an AI-ready data foundation to do it at ever-greater scale.
