About the Role
Due to continued growth Umwelt Brisbane is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Environmental Consultant to lead and expand our QLD Resources Sector.
In this senior leadership role you will combine strong technical expertise commercial acumen and client relationship management to drive growth across Queenslands resources market. Drawing on your experience in environmental approvals impact assessment compliance environmental management and multidisciplinary project delivery you will provide strategic advice to clients and lead the successful delivery of complex projects.
You will play a key role in shaping sector strategy strengthening client relationships and identifying new business opportunities. Working closely with executive leaders and industry stakeholders you will develop pursuit strategies lead proposals and bids and grow Umwelts presence across the resources sector.
As a senior technical leader you will provide oversight and review of complex environmental projects ensuring high-quality commercially focused outcomes that meet client and regulatory requirements. You may also act as Project Manager or Project Director overseeing project performance budgets resourcing risk management and delivery.
A key focus of the role is developing people and building capability across the team. You will mentor and support consultants at all levels foster collaboration and knowledge sharing and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Sector Leadership: Lead and shape the growth of Umwelts QLD Resources Sector with a focus on critical minerals energy transition mine closure rehabilitation and sustainability
- Technical Leadership: Provide trusted senior technical advice across environmental approvals impact assessment environmental management compliance and complex multidisciplinary project delivery
- Project Direction: Set the technical direction for resources projects including scoping planning delivery specialist coordination issue resolution and quality assurance
- Project and Commercial Delivery: Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality outcomes while balancing client regulatory commercial resourcing and timeframe requirements
- Client and Market Growth: Build trusted client and stakeholder relationships identify new opportunities and support bids proposals and pursuit strategies
- National Collaboration: Connect QLD resources opportunities with Umwelts broader planning environmental heritage social and engagement capabilities
- Team Capability: Mentor and develop team members setting clear standards and supporting technical excellence accountability and growth.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic passionate and driven individual with 15 years this role you will develop your consulting writing project management and technical skills through delivering a range of planning and environmental consulting projects.
You Will Have
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science Planning Management or a related discipline
- Relevant professional accreditation industry membership or eligibility to obtain (desirable).
- Extensive professional experience in resources project work environmental approvals and management or impact assessment preference for experience within a consulting environment with recognised expertise in the QLD resources sector
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership assurance and peer review across complex projects
- Strong commercial experience developing sector strategies bids and business development initiatives within the resources or environmental consulting sector
- Extensive working knowledge of relevant Commonwealth and State environmental legislation regulatory frameworks and approval pathways
- Demonstrated experience leading client engagement project delivery and proposal development
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing technical staff
- Deep technical capability and recognised expertise within the relevant discipline.
- Strong professional judgement in complex ambiguous or sensitive technical situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication including authoritative technical advice and client engagement
- Sound commercial judgement with the ability to balance resources budgets risk and competing priorities while supporting strategic growth and business development outcomes
- Strong interest in shaping QLDs future resources sector with awareness of emerging opportunities in critical minerals energy transition mine closure rehabilitation and sustainability
- A collaborative principled leadership style that builds capability and trust across the team and business
- Current unrestricted drivers licence
- Undertake travel and field visits as required for the role
