About us

No to Violence is Australias peak body for individuals and organisations that work with men that use violence. We provide training sector development and advocacy across the sector. We operate the Mens Referral Service providing a counselling service and referral pathways directly to men who use violence. As a pro-feminist organisation women and children are at the centre of what we do by ending mens use of family violence families individuals and communities are safer.

About the role

Role Type: Permanent Full time (also open to part-time and job share opportunities)

Classification: SCHADS Level 6

Location: Melbourne Hybrid Remote

As Policy and Advocacy Advisor youll work in a dynamic nationally focused team to develop and deliver policy and advocacy initiatives that influence Australias response to mens use of family violence. Youll have a specific jurisdictional focus while also contributing to broader NTV policy and advocacy priorities.

Youll analyse emerging political and social issues bring together research practitioner knowledge lived experience and government perspectives and turn that evidence into policy positions submissions briefings and advocacy materials. Youll also work closely with the research and communications functions to strengthen NTVs influence and represent the organisation in sector meetings working groups and forums.

A key part of the role is building strong relationships with members government research institutions and sector partners creating opportunities for their expertise and perspectives to inform policy and advocacy priorities.

About you

Youre a policy professional who understands how to turn complex evidence and ideas into clear compelling policy and advocacy. You can read the political environment build strong relationships and work confidently with people across government research the community sector and the specialist family violence sector.

To be successful youll have:

• Experience working in a policy or advocacy role.
• Strong understanding of Australian policy and political processes.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesise diverse evidence.
• Strong writing skills across policy and advocacy materials.
• Experience building and maintaining influential stakeholder relationships.
• An understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and a commitment to strengthening the specialist mens family violence sector.
