Position Summary
Reporting to the Market Operations Manager the Market Operations Controller is responsible for the safe and efficient monitoring and control of all Squadron Energy assets under operations ensuring regulations and compliance are being met. You will be a dedicated team player with high standards and attention to detail motivated to deliver a first-class professional Monitoring and Control service.
Key Responsibilities
Ensuring safe operation & National Energy Rules/National Electricity Market (NER/NEM) compliance of Squadron Energys assets at all times.
Monitor & control of assets via SCADA systems reacting to plant alerts and contingency events in the NEM.
Interfacing with Network Service Providers (NSP) Australian Energy Market Operator(AEMO) the wider Squadron Energy operational team and other applicable entities regarding asset outages generation constraints and/or specific production and network conditions.
Maintain a strong understanding of NER/NEM compliance requirements.
Contributing to NER/NEM compliance plans for Squadron Energys assets.
Maximising revenue for Squadron Energys assets.
Bidding in the NEM according to internal trading strategies.
Monitoring market dispatch solutions and activities of Squadron Energys assets as well as other NEM participants via provided IT systems to optimise dispatch outcomes.
Liaising with maintenance contractors to maximise availability as directed by the Market Operations Manager.
Maintain up-to-date understanding of NEM conditions and developments particularly in the short/medium term.
Contribute and optimize Squadron Energys trading firming and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) strategies given prevailing and expected market outcomes in conjunction with the Energy & Strategy Analyst.
Reporting and Data Analysis.
Audit daily checklists and handovers.
Provide real-time operational and revenue performance statuses of Squadron Energys assets as .
Analysis of operational and revenue data from Squadron Energys assets and the provision of first-line reports to the Squadron Energy team.
Contribute and produce routine operational and revenue reports.
Perform ad-hoc performance analysis as present findings and recommend solutions.
Operations Centre Development.
Drafting and maintaining up to date departmental operations procedures and guides in line with Quality Management Policy in cooperation with the Market Operations Manager.
Maintain strong attention to detail in performing quality control on the output of key Operations Centre (OC) reports and requests proposing and implementing processes to improve the OCs production quality as .
Work closely with the Market Operations Manager in proposing scoping and leading the development of new tools and processes improving the OCs long-term operational analytical and reporting capabilities.
Develop new and maintain all tools and processes involved in the operation of the OC.
General Responsibilities
Health safety and environment
Comply with all workplace health safety and environmental obligations and report any incidents hazards and accidents to the safety and environment team.
Administration
Ensure all documentation is stored and recorded on the Squadron Energy document management system.
Reporting
Ensure that issues and risks are escalated/reported to management in a timely manner.
Financial
Adhere to Squadron Energy and project procedures for purchasing and expenditure in compliance with approved budgets.
Stakeholders
Maintain a professional relationship with all project Stakeholders.
Company
Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Squadron Energys employee policies and standards.
Skills and experience
Experience and knowledge
A background in Engineering Data Science IT or Finance.
Adept in Excel and intermediate in other computer programs such as SCADA systems SQL or other programming languages.
Working knowledge in the renewables or utility industry (desirable).
Working knowledge in a trading desk control centre or shift work environment (desirable).
Working knowledge of utility wind and solar power generation and protection components including SCADA and HMI systems (desirable).
Working knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) dispatch process (desirable).
Skills
Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary.
Ability to understand implement and develop operating instructions and procedures.
Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to perform under intense and constant operational pressure.
Ability to perform under a rotating roster that includes weekends and night shifts.
Qualifications
Equivalent degree in Engineering Science or Commerce or relevant work experience.
