Our Reconnecting River Country Program team within Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Manager Policy on a temporary basis up to 31 December 2026.

The Manager Policy leads a small team delivering policy advice and implementation strategies for the Reconnecting River Country Program. The role works closely with senior executives and state and Commonwealth agencies to analyse legislation prepare briefs and support complex intergovernmental negotiations. The team operates in a collaborative fastpaced environment focused on evidencebased policy integrity and achieving sustainable water outcomes for regional NSW.

About the role

  • Lead manage and develop a team in the formulation coordination and liaison of policies and implementation strategies to support program delivery
  • Provide clear policy advice to support communications and engagement
  • Coordinate legal input to ensure aligned and effective policy development
  • Support interagency and committee engagement on policy matters
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities as required
  • Analyse legislation to inform policy positions
  • Build strong relationships across DCCEEW related state and Commonwealth agencies and stakeholders
  • Deliver robust evidence-based reporting and documentation
  • Communicate complex policy issues to a wide range of stakeholders and provide concise high-quality advice to senior executives and the Minister

What we are looking for

Were keen to hear from candidates who bring:

  • Proven experience developing and delivering complex public policy ideally in water environmental or natural resource management or intergovernmental contexts.
  • Strong capability to analyse legislation and intergovernmental agreements synthesise evidence and provide clear defensible advice to senior executives and Ministers.
  • Highly developed research critical thinking and problemsolving skills with the ability to manage multiple policy and project priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to produce concise clear and highquality briefs and papers for senior executive and Ministerial audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders across jurisdictions and communicate complex and sensitive issues clearly.
  • A proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across government and with external partners.
  • Sound judgment integrity and resilience under pressure.
  • A collaborative leadership style that supports and develops team members while navigating change and competing priorities in a fastpaced policy environment.
