As a Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager you will play a critical role in driving a safe compliant and high-performing operation across your region of accountability. You will lead the delivery of HSE systems processes and programs that effectively manage risk enhance capability and support continuous improvement.
Reporting into senior leadership you will influence across the business and lead a team to embed a strong safety culture aligned to Rio Tintos values and standards.
What youll bring
Demonstrated experience leading HSE functions in complex operational or industrial environments
Strong knowledge of health safety and environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
Proven ability to implement HSE systems policies and procedures that drive compliance and performance
Experience analysing incidents identifying trends and implementing improvements to prevent recurrence
Strong leadership capability with experience developing and coaching teams
Ability to influence engage and build trusted relationships with stakeholders across all levels
A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on risk management and operational excellence

Where youll be working
Opened in 1982 Boyne Smelters Limited is Australias second largest aluminium smelter with a 1000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast BSL produces around 500000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
Boyne Smelters is proud to contribute to the local community alongside the Rio Tinto Gladstone Aluminium sites QAL and Yarwun refinery through impactful funding initiatives and regional investment.
