About the role

2026 has seen a lot of changes and growth. We now have a permanent position foran experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our Services and Scrubbing team at Boyne Smelter Gladstone.

Our Team is responsible for keeping the scrubbing conveyor electrical instrumentation and control systems running safely and reliably so the smelter can maintain production and environmental performance.

Roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Team leader and working a 9 Day Roster your role will involve;

  • Troubleshooting calibrating repair and service of fixed plant electrical assets which includes Conveyors Scrubbers fume extraction equipment Instrumentation and Analysers power distribution and switchgear equipment.
  • Maintaining and replacing electrical equipment.
  • Execution of planned and unplanned breakdown maintenance.
  • Calibrate repair and service instruments measuring process conditions.
  • Work on PLCs instrumentation motor drives (VSDs) MCCs and control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently.
  • Promote opportunities to improve safety and performance. Working at heights.

What youll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Valid C Class drivers licence
  • An Australian A grade Electrical licence
  • Cert 3 Instrumentation Certificate
  • PLC & SCADA exposure.
  • Experience with Instrumentation motors VSDs & MCC fault-finding experience.
  • Experience maintaining conveyors or process plant equipment.

Where youll be working

Boyne Smelters

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australias second largest aluminium smelter with a 1000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast BSL produces around 500000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
