Job Summary

The Opportunity

Due to an internal promotion we have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Australia and New Zealand Legal Team supporting our Buildings and Transportation businesses.

Based in either Sydney or Melbourne you will work closely with project teams business leaders and fellow legal professionals to provide practical commercial legal advice across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure buildings and transport projects. This role offers exposure to some of Australias most complex and high-profile projects providing an outstanding platform to develop your career within a global organisation.

You will play a key role in supporting project pursuits and delivery by reviewing drafting and negotiating contracts managing legal risk and helping teams navigate complex commercial and procurement environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business thrives in a collaborative environment and is looking to broaden their experience across major infrastructure and professional services projects.

What youll be doing

  • Drafting reviewing and negotiating a broad range of contracts including consultancy agreements framework agreements subcontracts joint venture agreements confidentiality agreements and other project-related documentation.
  • Providing practical legal advice on project pursuits tenders procurement processes risk allocation and contract negotiation strategies.
  • Supporting project teams throughout the project lifecycle from bid stage through to project delivery.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of internal approvals and governance processes.
  • Advising on disputes claims contractual issues and commercial risk management matters.
  • Collaborating with business leaders and multidisciplinary project teams across Buildings Places and Transportation.
  • Supporting legal initiatives relating to compliance governance intellectual property insurance and broader corporate matters where required.

Qualifications :

The qualities that help you succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in Law and admission to practice in Australia.
  • Approximately 36 years post-admission experience either in private practice or an in-house legal environment.
  • Experience reviewing drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide pragmatic solutions-focused legal advice.
  • Excellent communication stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with a genuine interest in working closely with project and business teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Passion for infrastructure construction engineering professional services or related industries.
  • Appetite to learn and develop.

Highly regarded

  • Experience within the construction engineering infrastructure consulting or government sectors.
  • Exposure to procurement processes tendering and major project delivery environments.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams across complex projects.
