About the role

Bush Heritages 2030 Strategy is to improve biodiversity protection function and connectivity across landscapes.

The Field Ecology intern will support and conduct fauna flora and vegetation spring monitoring activities at Hamelin Eurardy and Charles Darwin reserves in Mid West WA. Working with BHA ecologists the Intern will assist in organising equipment safety procedures volunteers on-ground monitoring work data capture and management and general logistics..

Due to the timing and intensity of the spring monitoring season this internship will run full-time for three months commencing in late July 2026. The role will involve extended field trips typically ranging from 5 to 7 days at a time with TOIL recovery time office based work and data management tasks completed between field deployments.

Please note that Bush Heritage will NOT provide Perth or Geraldton/Mid-West accommodation for home office-based work but will do so for field-based work on reserves.

What youll need to succeed

  • A completed university qualification or TAFE Certificate III and above in ecology conservation zoology botany or other relevant discipline.
  • A commitment and passion for nature conservation and the objectives and values of Bush Heritage.
  • Practical experience in and ability to learn monitoring techniques and identification of Western Australian fauna and flora.
  • Organisational and communication skills.
  • A desire to learn develop new skills collaborate and be innovative.
  • High level of computer and data management skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively with a diverse range of people (staff volunteers and supporters).
  • Current manual drivers licence.
