About the Program

The primaryobjectiveof the Family Preservation Program is to keep children safe at home with their families and prevent removal placement in out of home care and future contact with the child protection system. Family preservation also supports children and families to achieve wider social benefits including better education attainment and improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

Families Together is a framework within this program. It is voluntary and aims to build on a familys strengths and capabilities to respond to their childrens needs and to create a safe and nurturing home. At Veritas House we deliver a range ofsupportswithin this framework to promote parenting skills family functioning child development as well as practical support to help create a safe home environment.

About the role

This role is a full timePermenantposition basedfromeither our Bathurst or Orange office with regular travel between offices asrequired.

The Family Worker provides practical hands-on support to families experiencing challenges thatimpactdaily functioning and child role focuses on working alongside families in their homes and communities to build confidence strengthen routines and improve living environments. Support is action-oriented and collaborative helping families develop the skills needed to manage everyday position plays a key role in supporting culturally and linguistically diverse families ensuring services are accessible respectful and responsive todifferent culturalcontexts.


Some of your core responsibilities will include;

  • Provide practical hands-on support to families in their home and community environments
  • Assistfamilies toestablishsafecleanand functional living spaces
  • Model and support daily routines including meal preparation householdorganisationand childrens routines
  • Build parents confidence and capability through coaching rolemodellingand strength-based approaches
  • Support the development of positive parenting strategiesstructureand consistency
  • Engage and build trusting relationships with families experiencing complex challenges
  • Assistfamilies to access services and attend appointments working collaboratively with other professionals
  • Monitor child safety and wellbeingidentifyingand escalating concerns in line withorganisationalprocedures
  • Maintainaccuratetimelycase notes and documentation

Selection Criteria

  • Certificate IV or Diploma or higher qualification in Youth Work Community Services Criminal Justice or similar along with experience working with youth and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work with children young peopleandtheirfamilies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care and the challenges faced by children and young people who have experienced significant traumaDemonstrated experience working alongside families to support meaningful and lasting change.
  • High levelof written verbal and computer-based communication skills including the use of databases and Microsoft Office programs
  • A current unrestricted driverslicence Working with Children Check and First Aid Certificate are pre-requisites for this role.
