Victorian Power Systems Analysis is a division within the System Design department which is focused on efficient planning and development of the Victorian Electricity Transmission Network in partnership with VicGrid.
About the role and team
With three positions available this is an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in Victorias energy transition. The Engineers within the Department will develop and maintain network asset and remedial action scheme power system models while leading modelling and analysis to support network investment inter-network testing and project integration activities.
The roles will also contribute to system normal limit equation development for the Victorian transmission network and support Operability activities to help ensure the safe secure and reliable supply of electricity.
What you will be doing
- Review Victorian system normal limit equations and special control schemes delivering timely limit advice and control scheme proposals.
- Undertake transmission network simulation and analysis using PSSE and PSCAD to support system integration and network augmentation activities.
- Interpret simulation outcomes and provide robust recommendations relating to project scoping delivery commissioning and augmentation impacts.
- Review and approve inter-network testing and project commissioning plans to support augmentation capacity release.
- Prepare clear high-quality reports operational planning advice presentations and briefing materials for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across AEMO and industry contributing to consistent policies messaging and system integration outcomes.
The positions can be based in any of AEMOs offices (Melbourne Sydney Brisbane Perth Adelaide) with hybrid working arrangements.
What you will bring to the role
Education
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering with a power system focus.
Experience and Knowledge
- Understanding of the Victorian power system and the ability to apply technical knowledge to solve engineering problems.
- Experience using power system modelling and analysis tools such as PSS/E PSCAD Mudpack and SCADA/EMS.
- Experience modelling credible and non-credible contingencies including steady state dynamic and QV studies.
- Industry experience in transmission network planning system integration or network operations with exposure to remedial action schemes protection and control systems testing and commissioning activities desirable.
- Strong communication stakeholder engagement and data analysis skills with experience using analytical tools automated solutions and IT systems.
- Highly organised and adaptable with strong attention to detail and knowledge of AEMOs Victorian Planning functions energy markets and regulatory frameworks.
