About thePosition

Reporting to the Director Conciliations Team within the DisputeResolution and Support Services Branch (the Branch)Conciliatorsare responsible forundertaking informal dispute resolution of individual rights-based disputes including unfair dismissal and general protections involving dismissal matters. This work includes conducting conciliations. Conciliators also play a leadership role mentoring and coaching others and promoting an understanding of dispute resolution principlesprocessesand skills internally and externally.

Duties

  • Develop andmaintainan understanding of the teams and Branchs impact on the Commissions strategic and operationalobjectives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning anddelivery of team Branch and Commission priorities andobjectivesincluding continuous improvement of the Commissions dispute resolution service.
  • Deliver high qualitytimelyalternate dispute resolution services consistent with the Conciliators Quality Assurance Framework and other guidance materials.
  • Use technology effectively to undertake dispute resolution and related activities within agreedtimeframesincluding to schedule prepare for and complete post conciliation/conference activities such as prepare terms of settlement close and refer matters to chambers and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain specialistdispute resolutionknowledgeandexpertiseand national accreditation as a mediator.
  • Support the development of self and others including:
    • participating in peer to peer and external observation programs
    • guidingcoachingand mentoring others (including relief conciliators) to achieve their best performance with a strong client service focus and culture and
    • delivering internal and external training and presentations.
  • Manage complex and sensitive escalations including resolving conflict and contributing to strategic solutionsproblem-solvingand issues management for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain productive working relationships collaborating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve the Commissionsobjectivesand overcome conflict.
  • Provide expertpracticaland impartial advice and support to Commission Members the General Manager and senior leadership.
  • Uphold and promote an inclusive healthy and safe working environment modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct and Values.
  • Engage positively with risk and embed risk management in planning decision making and contributing to teamobjectives.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly to support the branch to deliverobjectives including by performing other duties whenrequired.
