What Youll Be Doing
This role sits at the commercial heart of Busways working directly alongside the Chief Commercial Officer on the issues that matter most to our clients and our business. No two days look the same but the core of the role is this: youll be the person who helps us resolve complex commercial and contractual challenges - clearly quickly and with the relationships intact.
More specifically you will:
Lead strategic and practical managementof commercial and contractual issues across Busways operations working directly with clients to reach timely well-reasoned outcomes
Build andmaintain strong client relationships - youll be a trusted point of contact who understands the clients perspective and advocates for solutions that work for both sides
Prepare high-quality briefing notes commercial summaries and presentations that help senior leaders make confident well-informed decisions
Coordinate external legal counsel and manage legal matters end-to-end keeping things moving and on track
Support the review of tender documentation and contribute to Busways response to new opportunities across Australia
Contribute to procurement improvements and supplier management initiatives
Play an active role in embedding AI and process improvements across the commercial function
Take on research analysis and ad-hoc projects as the business requires - this is a role for someone whos energised by variety not unsettled by it
What Youll Bring
Were looking for someone early in their career who is sharp commercially curious and genuinely motivated to grow. You dont need to have done everything - but you do need to be the kind of person who figures things out communicates with confidence and builds trust quickly with clients and colleagues alike.
Specifically youll have:
At least three years experience in a commercial legal procurement orcontracts role - with demonstrated ability to work through complex issues and reach practical outcomes
Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can translate complexity into clear compelling documents and hold your own in a client conversation
A genuine interest in how businesses grow and how client relationships are built and sustained over time
High attention to detail in contract and document review without losing sight of the commercial picture
The ability to manage competing priorities without dropping the ball - this role moves fast
Experience working with or coordinating external legal counsel (desirable but not essential)
Exposure to the transport government services or infrastructure sectors (desirable but not essential - well back the right person regardless of industry background)
Relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce law contract management or a related discipline
