Your Opportunity

The Benevolent Society is a Partner in the Community for the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and are adding additional Child Development Specialists to our growing Early Childhood Approach (ECA) team.

You will work in partnership with children families and early childhood services to gather information about each childs development. Your caseload may include families from a range of backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and you will provide culturally responsive strengths-based support tailored to each familys needs. You will support families to develop understand and implement their childs NDIS plans. As an evolving scheme the NDIS environment can be dynamic and fast-paced. As a Child Development Specialist you will meet with children and families from diverse backgroundsincluding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander familiesvirtually over the phone or face to face. You will gather information about each childs development and current supports then work in partnership with families to develop goals. Your focus will be on participant engagement across the childs natural environments to promote meaningful change.

How You Will Contribute

• Respond quickly and effectively to client enquiries using a human-centred and strengths-based approach to build relationships.
• Meet with children caregivers and other key stakeholders in natural settings to gather information about the daily functional impacts of a childs development or disability using a culturally responsive strengths-based approach.
• Document information about each childs development or disability and provide recommendations for supports including referrals to mainstream and culturally appropriate community services as well as potential funded supports through the NDIS.
• Serve as a point of contact via our intake phone line and email inbox for existing clients and their families who are looking for support with their NDIS plan.
• Building the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous caregivers to meet their childs individual goals through providing information and education relating to early childhood development.

Your Skills and Experience

We want you to be successful in your new role! This means youll have:

• Proven excellent verbal written and interpersonal skills including active listening skills and demonstrated ability to adapt communication style and approach to the level of the audience
• Strong IT skills using multiple software applications simultaneously with proficiency in troubleshooting if required
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport trusting professional in short periods of time with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities
• Demonstrated effective time and priority management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines & stakeholders with repeated interruptions
• Proven self-awareness reflective skills and tools to manage personal well-being when supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander vulnerable families including knowing when to reach out for assistance
• Demonstrated willingness for continuous learning being a proven self-starter self-reflective approach to your work and embracing feedback
