Role description:
Our Design and Engineering (Urban Development) division is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer or Associate Technical Director to lead the delivery technical governance and project management of civil land development this role you will provide strategic and technical leadership across the full project lifecycle ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with design intent client objectives regulatory requirements and commercial outcomes. You will act as a key interface between design teams clients and stakeholders driving quality and consistency across project delivery.
Role accountabilities:
  • Lead the planning coordination and delivery of urban development projects from concept through to construction support.
  • Manage project scope programme budget and risk to achieve successful commercial and technical outcomes.
  • Oversee delivery across multiple projects simultaneously ensuring alignment with business and client objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.
  • Provide technical oversight and review of civil engineering designs ensuring compliance with relevant standards approvals and best practice.
  • Maintain design integrity and consistency across all project stages including concept detailed design and construction documentation.
  • Review and approve key deliverables including reports drawings modelling outputs and technical submissions to authorities.
  • Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities providing clear direction on resolution strategies.
  • Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams (civil drainage transport environmental and external consultants) to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Facilitate effective communication between disciplines to ensure alignment of design intent and project objectives.
  • Manage interfaces between design approvals and construction teams to ensure seamless project progression.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients providing trusted technical and strategic advice.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers local authorities and key stakeholders.
  • Lead client meetings presentations and workshops clearly communicating technical information and project status.
  • Support negotiation and resolution of project issues with stakeholders.
  • Provide high-level guidance during construction to ensure alignment with design intent and project requirements.
  • Review and respond to design-related queries (RFIs) design changes and value engineering opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and governance of design modifications throughout project delivery.
  • Support project financial performance through effective management of project budgets resourcing and delivery efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers supporting capability growth across the team.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
  • RPEQ (or eligibility) strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience delivering urban development or land development projects in a design and project leadership capacity.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles design standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical review processes and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects and client relationships.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills including delivery of technical advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage project performance.
