Talenting is partnering with the Centre for Womens Safety and Wellbeing (CWSW) Western Australias peak body advancing womens safety and family and domestic violence reform to recruit a Aboriginal Strategy and Engagement Manager for its newly funded Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Workforce Entity.
What is this opportunity
CWSW and its consortium partners have been funded by the WA Government to establish a new Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Workforce Entity - a major statewide initiative to strengthen workforce capability and support the delivery of system-wide reform across Western Australia.
Working in partnership with government specialist FDV services Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations training providers and research institutions the Entity will drive long-term workforce development and coordination across the sector. This is a meaningful opportunity to play a key role in shaping practical workforce capability initiatives that support a skilled safe and sustainable FDV workforce across WA.
Why does this role matter
The Aboriginal Strategy and Engagement Manager has a central role in shaping the work of Western Australias new Family and Domestic Violence Workforce Entity. The role is responsible for ensuring Aboriginal approaches to workforce development are in line with the FDV System Reform Plan and Closing the Gap priorities while upholding cultural authority and shared decision-making.
This position works with the Executive Director and entity staff to ensure Aboriginal voices cultural knowledges research and evidence-based practice and lived experience are embedded in strategy governance training programs and workforce development initiatives. It strengthens partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to improve family and domestic violence responses and outcomes for Aboriginal women children families and communities.
What will you be responsible for
Reporting to the Executive Director you will lead Aboriginal strategy engagement and capacity building across the FDV Workforce Entity.
You will:
Provide cultural expertise and advice across priority reforms and initiatives related to workforce development community safety and socio-economic participation.
Build and maintain relationships with Aboriginal leaders Elders ACCOs peak bodies government and sector stakeholders and establish support and manage an Aboriginal Advisory Group to guide culturally informed decision-making.
Engage with Aboriginal services and key stakeholders to design and implement Aboriginal workforce capability strategies including leadership pathways and initiatives that support the Aboriginal workforce across the FDV sector.
Support the capacity of FDV services and ACCOs to deliver culturally safe family and domestic violence responses and develop practical tools and resources to support Aboriginal workforce capacity.
Play an active role in the design testing delivery and continuous improvement of training programs tools and workforce development resources working with Aboriginal communities workers and organisations to ensure these are culturally grounded and fit for purpose.
Represent the organisation in high-level forums related to Aboriginal policy workforce reform and family and domestic violence and contribute to governance reporting and continuous improvement across the Entity.

Requirements
What we are looking for
CWSW is seeking an experienced Aboriginal leader with a deep understanding of family and domestic violence and its impacts on Aboriginal communities and the skills to drive culturally informed workforce development and systems change across the FDV sector.
Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities organisations and leaders including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations at a senior level.
- Demonstrated understanding of family and domestic violence and its impacts on Aboriginal women children families and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to influence systems policy and practice to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated experience in engagement and building positive stakeholder relations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in workforce development and capability building preferably in family and domestic violence human services or related sectors.
- Strong project and contract management skills.
- Possession of a relevant tertiary or VET qualification in Social Work Community Services or a related discipline or significant experience working in a community context.

Required Skills:
Proven senior leadership experience (5 years) in community not-for-profit or government sectors. The ability to recognise and articulate issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a proven capacity to consult and negotiate effectively and sensitively in accordance with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols. A high level of interpersonal skills for networking consulting and liaising at all levels. The ability to lead and build capacity within a multi-disciplinary team with confidence honesty and commitment. Advanced written skills including a demonstrated ability to research information and write complex reports. Demonstrated understanding of community development. Demonstrated knowledge of finance budgeting and financial analysis.
Required Education:
Relevant tertiary qualifications ideally in business project management or a related field.
