Senior Environmental Engineer

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a proactive and qualified Senior Environmental Engineer to join its project supervision team on a Roads and Infrastructure Project. The role will focus on ensuring environmental compliance implementing sustainability measures and supporting the contractors environmental management plans in alignment with clients environmental guidelines Qatar Construction Standards (QCS) and applicable local authority requirements.

Your role

• Monitor the contractors implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and ensure compliance with all environmental permits and conditions.
• Support the integration of sustainability best practices including material reuse energy-efficient operations and low-impact construction methods.
• Conduct environmental audits inspections and site assessments to ensure mitigation measures are in place (e.g. dust suppression noise control waste segregation).
• Prepare and submit regular environmental and sustainability compliance reports as per Clients KPIs and reporting framework.
• Review and approve contractor submissions related to environmental protection spill prevention erosion control and landscape management.
• Liaise with MME Clients Environmental Department and other local authorities for necessary approvals inspections and updates.
• Promote awareness among site staff and subcontractors regarding environmental protection biodiversity conservation and resource optimization.
• Investigate environmental incidents non-conformities and complaints; develop and track corrective actions.
• Ensure alignment of project activities with Clients Corporate Sustainability Framework and ISO 14001 principles.
• Support handover documentation regarding environmental compliance and sustainability contributions.
• In depth knowledge about GORD/GSAS certification system.

About you

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Environmental Engineering Sustainability Environmental Science or Civil/mechanical Engineering (with specialization).
• Minimum 10 years total experience with at least 5 years in infrastructure/construction projects in an environmental role.
• GORD/GSAS certified profession ISO 14001 Lead Auditor LEED GA/AP or equivalent (preferred).
• UPDA/MMUP registration required
• Minimum five years experience in Qatar.
• GCC infrastructure projects.
• Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
• Knowledge of Clients standards road material specs QA/QC processes and stakeholder coordination.
• Familiar with document management systems (Clients DCS) MS Office AutoCAD (viewing) and site-related software.

Key Competencies

• Strong understanding of environmental legislation in Qatar and GCC.
• Practical knowledge of sustainability frameworks (LEED GSAS etc.).
• Expertise in site-based environmental monitoring and mitigation strategies.
• Ability to influence contractor behavior through proactive engagement.
• Skilled in environmental reporting documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Clear communication with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory bodies.
