The Senior Database Administrator will oversee the design implementation and maintenance of database systems that store and process sensitive immigration-related data. Youll ensure database performance security and reliability to support critical operations such as enrollment processing case management and compliance monitoring. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and accuracy of immigration services provided to clients.
Responsibilities
- Database Design & Optimization: Develop scalable secure and efficient databases to handle high volumes of immigration-related data including applicant records case statuses and compliance reports.
- Data Security & Compliance: Implement strict data access controls and encryption techniques to protect sensitive personal and legal information ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and other immigration-specific data privacy laws.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize databases for fast query processing especially for case management systems and reporting tools used by immigration officers and clients.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Establish comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability during high-demand periods like application deadlines.
- System Integration: Collaborate with development teams to integrate database solutions with immigration software platforms APIs and third-party systems (e.g. biometric data systems payment gateways).
- Audit & Monitoring: Conduct regular audits of database activities to identify potential security breaches or inefficiencies ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams including developers and legal compliance officers to improve database systems and provide data insights for operational decision-making.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the system administration team and the NOC.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field. A Masters degree or certification in data security or compliance is a plus.
- 5 years of experience in database administration preferably within industries managing sensitive data (e.g. government legal or aviation).
- Experience with database technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server MongoDB PostgreSQL and Oracle.
- Knowledge of immigration systems or legal databases is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with cloud database solutions like AWS RDS Azure SQL or Google Cloud Spanner.
- Expertise in database security including encryption access control and data masking techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills to manage large-scale complex databases.
- Proficient in scripting for automation (e.g. Python Bash) and query optimization (e.g. PL/SQL T-SQL).
- Ability to support 24/7 operational environments ensuring minimal downtime.
- Tanzanian national only.
- At least one of the following certifications: o Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) o Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate o AWS Certified Database - Specialty o Oracle Database 19c Administrator Certified ProfessionalStrong
- communication and teamwork abilities.
- Fluency in both English and Kiswahili (spoken and written).
- Previous experience in the aviation industry is a plus.
