Director of Learning, Analytics, and Innovation: Job Description/Profile

Scope: Primary, Middle, and High School / Whole school Leadership Team

Reporting to: Head of School

To fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies, and experience. A Director of Learning, Analytics, and Innovation should be a versatile, inspiring, and forward-thinking educator. S/He should be an exceptional professional who will provide exemplary collaborative leadership, inspirational knowledge, and engaging interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will model the ISL Qatar mission, values, and beliefs in action as a member of various teams across the school, particularly in terms of international-mindedness and intercultural understanding.

1 Qualifications, Experience and Skills: The school prefers people who:

1.1 Possess a minimum of three years as Director of Teaching and Learning, Assistant Head, Head of Section, Principal, Curriculum Coordinator, Data/Assessment Coordinator, Instructional Coach, Professional Development Trainer and/or other related leadership positions.

1.2 Hold teaching and leadership qualifications, preferably a masters degree or licensure in leadership, curriculum, instruction, data analysis or related field.

1.3 Possess IB teaching and leadership experience.

1.4 Demonstrate vision and ability to lead professional learning communities (PLCs) to successfully promote student-centred learning.

1.5 Execute a progressive vision of well-rounded professional learning systems with special attention to effectively leading and leveraging job-embedded, daily learning opportunities.

1.6 Demonstrate vision and ability to lead collection, analysis, and planning with learning data; experience with and/or vision to initiate a learning analytics dashboard to curate data and lead educational staff in using data to inform instruction.

1.7 Demonstrate successful experience with the recruitment, supervision, development, and retention of teachers, instructional coaches, and other educational staff.

1.8 Possess the ability to motivate and inspire others to innovate, pilot and incubate new methods and projects with potential meaningful learning impact within the scope of the school s mission and strategic directions.

1.9 Possess international experience and/or experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment.

1.10 Exemplify excellent interpersonal skills with proven experience of fostering a positive school spirit amongst students, staff, and the wider community.

1.11 Display ability to collaboratively innovate, implement and effectively sustain change initiatives.

1.12 Possess professional working proficiency in spoken and written English.

2 Purpose:

2.1 The purpose of this role is to provide highly effective collaborative leadership to support whole school operations and the continuous development of teacher identities as learners and best practice in the classroom. S/He implements the school vision in an inspiring, innovative fashion and ensures that a clear direction for school development is understood and adhered to by all member of the ISL Qatar staff.

2.2 S/He is jointly accountable for ensuring that teaching and learning inspire high levels of engagement, achievement, and progress in students of all abilities. S/He oversees developing an effective model of continuous practice improvement for professional faculty to develop consistent, high-quality practice from Early Childhood to Grade 12.

3 Knowledge and Skills. S/He should:

3.1 Foster the values, dispositions, behaviours, attitudes, and attributes of the ISL Qatar values and IB learner profile across all members of the ISL Qatar community.

3.2 Be internationally minded and culturally sensitive, with a commitment to developing global citizenship and community action.

3.3 Possess excellent communication and collaborative skills.

3.4 Be a strategic, analytical thinker, with a growth mindset.

3.5 Have a strong record of learning, achievement, and leadership in international schools, preferably with experience of more than one of the International Baccalaureate Programmes and other international programmes

3.6 Be able to lead, manage and develop an expanding international school and in particular help to nurture team spirit amongst the faculty.

3.7 Have experience of implementing and leading collaborative change in international schools.

3.8 Be innovative and creative in applying current research as to how children and adults learn and develop best.

3.9 Have extensive experience of international curriculum developments, programmes of study and assessment methods and be innovative and creative in applying them in practice.

3.10 Have an innovative and creative approach to international school leadership based on best current practice.

3.11 Have the ability of generating, managing and leading a busy calendar of student and professional learning processes and events.

3.12 Have the ability to lead data analysis to inform evidence-based improvement practices.

3.13 Have an excellent command of spoken and written English.

4 Roles, responsibilities, and expectations:

4.1 School operations:

The Director of Learning, Analytics and Innovation directly mentors, supervises, and evaluates Whole School Leaders of Learning positions (WSLOLs) and Instructional Coaches. S/He also oversees and monitors all activities that require data analytics and acts as a subject matter expert in the design and recommendation of appropriate analytical approaches and methodologies in addressing key issues within the school.

4.2 Classroom practice:

In collaboration with Heads of Section, Leaders of Learning, Grade Level Leaders, IB Coordinators and teachers, facilitate consistent implementation of strategies for learning and assessment; oversee the quality of learning, teaching, and assessment practices across the school.

4.3 Curriculum development:

Participates in the development, implementation and oversight of curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment in all school divisions.

4.4 A Focus on Students:

Collaborate with specific individuals and groups to ensure the education of the whole child for all students at ISL Qatar.

4.5 Professional Learning:

Take charge of all school professional development programs (organization of professional in-service days, in-house workshops, conferences, and presenters).

Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) to execute a progressive vision of well-rounded professional learning systems with special attention to effectively leading and leveraging job-embedded, daily learning opportunities.

Contribute to the school wide budgeting process, particularly as it relates to the leading, planning, and implementation of professional learning.

Act as a mentor to teachers, ensuring continuous improvement in their professional skills, guiding them in the execution of their duties as needed, and preparing them for future positions.

Create professional learning resources, inform faculty about relevant opportunities, and assist faculty in pursuing professional learning opportunities.

Work cooperatively with teachers, Leaders of Learning, Grade Level Leaders, and Heads of Section, to develop direction and guidance for professional learning for the purpose of improving planning, gathering evidence for learning and instruction.

Manage all external professional learning registrations for staff.

4.6 Professional competencies:

The Director of Learning, Analytics, and Innovation, in conjunction with the Heads of Section and other leaders, is responsible to ensure that ISL Qatar staff adhere to the standards of professional conduct as described in the staff handbook, the competencies as outlined in individual job description and oversees the implementation of the probation protocols and staff evaluation schemes.

4.7 Strategic leadership:

The Director of Learning, Analytics and Innovation provides management with visibility into data-driven insights that inform the schools strategic direction and key performance indicators (KPIs) especially related to learning. S/He makes research-based recommendations to drive innovation and impact learning positively. S/He also assists in the development of strategic, data-driven decisions, that will include the following:

Help to design, develop, implement, and review the school policies and strategic thinking.

Support new staff induction.

In collaboration with Heads of Section, programme coordinators, and other leaders, ensure that recommendations from external agencies are implemented in a manner compatible with our philosophy and needs.

Foster a positive attitude between the school and wider community through attending parent meetings,

school events and through contributions to regular school publications.

Enhance the standing of the school by representing the school at local, regional, and global events

Assume a leading role in accreditation processes (NEASC, IB, Qatar governmental agencies).

Requirements
