Our wide range of programs spanning social services education and recreation reflects our mission to build a more connected inclusive and thriving community for THE ROLE:The Youth Worker supports the daily implementation of high-quality afterschool programming by helping create a safe engaging and inclusive environment for youth. Working alongside program leadership and frontline staff the Youth Worker assists with participant supervision activity implementation positive youth development and daily program operations while supporting DYCD and Commonpoint quality the agency our seasonal and part-time staff play a crucial role in driving our initiatives forward by supporting daily operations program delivery and organizational to the Program RESPONSIBILITIES:Agency Expectations: Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection reporting or documentation as agency resources responsibly by following established procedures safeguarding equipment and materials and/or supporting cost-effective effectively with supervisors coworkers and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication timely task completion and a positive respectful work all safety protocols policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff partners and the public and promptly report concerns or Expectations:Youth Supervision & Safety:Supervise participants during program hours transitions trips and special a safe inclusive and engaging environment while following all agency safety positive behavior using restorative and trauma-informed incidents injuries and concerns according to agency Implementation:Support daily implementation of academic enrichment SEL leadership recreation literacy and STEM youth participation and materials assist with activity setup and cleanup and support homework assistance as with family events showcases and field DevelopmentBuild positive relationships and serve as a positive role teamwork leadership communication and social-emotional program expectations while encouraging youth voice and participationOperations & Compliance:Support attendance procedures and required program participant confidentiality and follow DYCD DOE and Commonpoint with emergency drills and complete all required maintain organized program spaces and :Work collaboratively with staff and school professionally and refer concerns to program in meetings training and coaching while demonstrating professionalism flexibility and & KEY ATTRIBUTES:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be at least 16 years of possess a high school diploma or equivalent OR at least one (1) year of experience working with children under 13 years of must be at least 18 years old to supervise participants communication and interpersonal to build positive relationships with youth and work collaboratively with complete all required background clearances and agency onboarding QUALIFICATIONS:Experience working in an afterschool school camp recreation or youth development supporting elementary and/or middle school-aged skills are ATTRIBUTES of a Youth Worker :Dependable punctual and follows through on assigned to changing program needs and responds positively to the agency professionally while following all safety protocols and & BENEFITS:Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range to allow for growth based on performance professional development and -Time Rate OR Seasonal Salary/Rate!WORKING CONDITIONS & JOB DETAILS:WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed primarily in a school or office setting with regular activities conducted in classrooms gyms cafeterias outdoor spaces and other program environments as may require exposure to varying environmental conditions including outdoor weather loud noise and other conditions associated with school-age and community-based the ability to sit stand walk bend stoop reach and use a computer and other office equipment for extended periods throughout the be able to lift and carry materials supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds withoccasional assistance for heavier items as flexibility to work occasional evenings weekends and extended hours to support program operations special events training family engagement activities and agency between program sites schools agency locations and community events may be required based on program operational and funding needs. Temporary reassignment to alternate program sites including summer program locations may also be required to support agency DETAILS:Work Schedule: MondayFriday. Typical afterschool hours are approximately 2:00 PM6:00 PM. Schedules may vary based on program needs and may include earlier start or end times as well as full-day shifts during school breaks holidays training meetings and special events.
