Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving : Evaluate complex writing issues and develop solutions. Use sound reasoning to analyze a students work and provide constructive feedback. Oral/Written Communications : Provide clear concise and organized verbal feedback. Write detailed commentary on student papers. Convey complex writing principles in understandable terms. Teamwork/Collaboration : Work harmoniously with other tutors to share strategies and insights. Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure consistent tutoring methodologies. Understand and respect diverse writing styles and perspectives. Digital Technology : Efficiently use digital platforms and tools (like grammar checkers online databases) to assist in tutoring. Stay updated with the latest digital resources and platforms used in writing research and tutoring. Leadership : Take the initiative in guiding students through the writing process. Demonstrate the ability to influence and guide student writers without dominating their original voice. Participate in tutor training and development sessions sometimes leading them. Professionalism/Work Ethic : Exhibit punctuality dependability and preparedness for each tutoring session. Uphold the writing centers standards ethics and confidentiality guidelines. Demonstrate patience and resilience with challenging tutoring scenarios. Global/Intercultural Fluency : Respectfully engage with writers from diverse cultural linguistic and educational backgrounds. Recognize and value diverse perspectives in writing and communication. Equity and Inclusion : Understand and respect the unique voices experiences and backgrounds of all students. Adopt strategies to ensure inclusivity in tutoring sessions making sure every student feels valued and understood. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one writing consultations with undergraduate students focusing on improving their writing skills. Mentor students by providing guidance and feedback on their writing and helping them develop effective writing strategies. Open and close the Writing Center ensuring that all equipment and materials are properly stored and secured. Maintain the centers schedule coordinating appointments and walk-ins with available writing consultants. Answer emails and inquiries from students and faculty providing information about the services offered by the center and how to access them. Conduct workshops and presentations as necessary to help students improve their writing skills including topics such as thesis statements organization and citation styles. Maintain accurate records of student consultations.

Required Qualifications
Must be a student at Gannon University enrolled full time with a minimum 3.6 GPA Strong writing skills and a deep understanding of the writing process including academic writing conventions and citation styles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team of writing consultants. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback. Familiarity with academic writing conventions and citation styles. Flexibility and adaptability with the ability to respond to changing priorities and demands. Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
