Job Description:

SUMMARY

Consultantsare responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportiveenvironment to students in all disciplines in order to engage and empower themto become more competent academic and professional writers.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers
  • Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
  • Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
  • Experience working with community college students

KNOWLEDGESKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Possess working knowledge of writing concepts practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
  • Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
  • Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
  • Ability to work comfortably with people from a variety of backgrounds

  • The work is performed in a normal professional office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted heated and ventilated.
  • The employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and may perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers usinga computer mouse and keyboard to type. However there will be walking; standing; bending; stooping; and carrying of variousitems and equipment.
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away fromthe worksite.

Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position:This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position with the following Set Rate of Pay: $20.91/ hour.
