Job Summary

Collaborative Robotics is seeking a Wire Harness Mechanical Engineer to own the design routing release and validation of the wire harnesses and cable assemblies used throughout our robots and the hardware that builds and tests them.

This role is located onsite at our Santa Clara CA headquarters.

Cobot will offer a relocation stipend if you are relocating to join our Santa Clara office and currently live more than 50 miles outside of the office location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own wire harness and cable assembly designs from requirements through routing release build validation and production support partnering with a senior engineer on harness architecture

  • Translate electrical schematics and interconnect requirements into accurate 3D routes 2D drawings BOMs wire lists and manufacturing documentation.

  • Define routing wire and cable selection lengths connectors terminals protective coverings strain relief bend radii retention clearances service loops and assembly access.

  • Partner with mechanical electrical systems test and manufacturing engineers to resolve interfaces and make practical tradeoffs across reliability packaging serviceability cost and schedule.

  • Support prototype and first-article builds diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and rapidly incorporate physical-build learning into the design.

  • Develop and support validation for continuity voltage drop signal integrity environmental performance and mechanical durability.

  • Work directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners to improve buildability quality repeatability inspection and production readiness.

  • Develop reusable design standards component libraries and best practices for harnessing across Cobot hardware programs.

  • Create and maintain a 2D and 3D electrical component library from the ground up.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.

  • 3 years of professional experience designing and releasing wire harnesses or cable assemblies for complex electromechanical products including direct ownership from design through physical build or validation.

  • Experience with 3D CAD cable routing and production-release documentation including drawings BOMs wire lists or equivalent manufacturing definitions.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and interconnect diagrams and apply practical knowledge of routing connector selection strain relief bend radius shielding grounding clearances and serviceability.

  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype or first-article builds and troubleshooting physical or electrical integration issues.

  • Highly motivated teammate with excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Enjoy working in a fast paced collaborative and dynamic start-up environment as part of a small team.

  • Willing to occasionally travel.

  • Must have and maintain US work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of Proficiency in 3D CAD cable routing (CATIA NX Creo or SolidWorks). We use SolidWorks but are open to more capable tools for cable routing.

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with part/assembly design experience beyond harness routing (brackets enclosures sheet metal CNC).

  • Experience with dedicated harness ECAD tools (Siemens Capital Zuken E3 RapidHarness or similar).

  • Experience developing hardware for robotics autonomous vehicles electric vehicles aerospace industrial automation or another complex electromechanical product.

  • Familiarity with low voltage systems moving or high-flex cable applications and product or manufacturing test-fixture cabling.

  • Experience with PDM or PLM systems configuration control released harness drawings BOMs and electrical component libraries.

  • Familiarity with wire harness design or workmanship standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 AS50881 or EWIS.

  • Experience working directly with harness suppliers or contract manufacturers and supporting first-article inspection or production launch.


The annual base salary range for this position is $175000 - $195000 plus equity and comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision plans 401(k) plan unlimited paid vacation time paid sick leave and parental leave. Our salary ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the noted geographic area. Within the range individual pay is determined by additional factors including job-related skills experience and relevant education or training.
