Water Pollution Control - Attendant

Department: DPW - Wastewater

Employment Status: Non-Exempt UFCW 1459 Laborers Full-Time

(40 Hours/Week)

Pay Range: Grade 06L: Step 05 Step 08 $20.51/Hour - $23.97/Hour ( Licenses)

Schedule: Monday Friday 2:00 PM 12:00 AM

Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Class B CDL License Air brakes and Tanker Endorsement Massachusetts 2C Hoisting License or obtain within six(6)months.

SUMMARY


The City of Chicopees Department of Public Works Water Pollution Control Divisionis hiring a Water Pollution Control-Attendant who will assist in the operation maintenance cleaning and repair of all plant process equipment buildings and grounds for their proper and safe operation. Also drives vehicles to transport facilityresiduals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Clean lubricate maintain compressors vehicles shafts bearings gears and other parts of machinery works with preventative maintenance program and related tasks.
  • In charge of day-to-day maintenance of all assigned vehicles; drive maintain clean scheduling of routine preventative maintenance and registry inspection.
  • Participates in the day-to-day repairs cleaning mowing polish and maintenance of all buildings inside and outside grounds of establishment.
  • Cuts grass and trim weeds digs flower beds and plants flowers.
  • Cleans buildings washes windows/floors general janitorial duties and empties trash.
  • Purchases supplies and materials according to City purchasing procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning/janitorial supplies building and ground maintenance supplies and order same as needed.
  • Paints interior and exterior walls and trim.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters benches partitions and other wooden structures.
  • Rake rags grit and takes care of material recycling.
  • Clean/operate scum and grit collection paint and lubricate equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools maintain spare parts.
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses wiring and belts in machines and equipment such as snow blower and riding mower.
  • Works inenclosed tanks and underground confined spaces.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine(s).
  • Operates CDL vehicles as needed for the removal emptying of containers transportation and disposal of residuals and material(s).
  • Operates all City owned vehicles including skid steer loader roll-off truck etc.
  • Abides by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Massachusetts Class B CDL License. Required
  • Air brakes and Tanker Endorsement. - Required
  • Massachusetts Class A CDL License. Preferred
  • Massachusetts 2C Hoisting License or obtain within six(6)months.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Required
