What Youll Do

The Waste Management Facilities Operations is responsible for ensuring operations are in compliance with all applicable requirements for a defined set of Y-12 capabilities and associated infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily activities and maintain compliance in areas of facility safety nuclear criticality safety chemical safety security environmental compliance and emergency preparedness within Waste Management facilities.
  • Serve as primary interface between Waste Management subcontractors and CNS organizations.
  • Work with CNS Fire Department Operations Radiological Control Industrial Safety Industrial Health ET&I and other organizations to maintain facility compliance and operability.
  • Maintain a safe and rigorous work control program covering all corrective and preventive maintenance in Waste Management facilities.
  • Maintain equipment operability by ensuring proper maintenance is completed.
  • Review completed surveillances round sheets and other monitoring results to ensure facility safety and operability and maintain documented evidence of equipment status.
  • Maintain Waste Management Operations procedures by reviewing and approving procedure changes.
  • Work with Waste Management subcontractors to ensure Waste Management facilities maintain a Facility Safety Hazard Categorization Below Facility Safety Thresholds.
  • Ensure Nuclear Criticality Safety program requirements are implemented and maintained within Waste Management operations.
  • Periodically review and revise nuclear criticality safety documents as necessary to support Waste Management operations.
  • Assist in determining needed equipment upgrades in Waste Management processes.
  • Provide assistance to Waste Management subcontractors in the installation of new equipment and process improvements.

Accountabilities:

  • To the Manager of Waste Operations in maintaining the functionality of Waste Management facilities and processes especially in relation to interface with CNS Y-12 organizations.
  • To the Waste Management Subcontract Technical Representative in ensuring the satisfactory performance of Waste Management subcontractors.

Authorities:

  • Authorized to provide work start authorization for all operations to be performed in Waste Management facilities.
  • Authorized to interface with CNS Y-12 plant organizations in order to maintain facility compliance and operability.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Masters degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • OR PhD.
  • Twelve (12) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of-experience requirements for this posting.
Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
  • Masters degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
  • Previous experience with chemical and radiological waste characterization treatment packaging transportation and disposal of waste generated at Department of Energy nuclear facilities.
  • Previous experience with interpretation of analytical data for the purpose of determining regulatory status as well as mixed low level waste disposition planning and treatment/disposal profile development.
  • Prior experience with the Waste Acceptance Criteria at the Nevada Nuclear Security Site and/or commercial TSDFs.
  • Formal training related to radioactive waste management DOT RCRA Polychlorinated Biphenyls and Radiological Worker II is desired.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.

This position may be categorized as a designated position identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709 requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
