Our Nursing Vice President of Facilities Activation will play a critical executive leadership role in supporting Inovas transformation of hospital care through the transition from Inova Alexandria Hospital to two new state-of-the-art hospital facilities. The Landmark campus will replace the Seminary Road hospital with an 838000-square-foot facility featuring 192 private inpatient beds advanced cardiac and neurosciences services womens health services and a standalone Inova Schar Cancer Center. The Springfield Franconia campus will expand the existing HealthPlex with a new 110-bed hospital offering advanced emergency and surgical services along with an outpatient center focused on orthopedics. This leader will help ensure nursing clinical operations workforce readiness care models technology and patient-centered workflows are fully prepared to support a seamless transition and deliver safe high-quality care across both new facilities from day one.

The Vice President Nursing Facilities Activation provides executive leadership of nursing teams for the planning activation and operational readiness for new hospital facilities across Inova. This role is responsible for integrating nursing clinical operations facility planning care model design and technology implementation to support successful hospital openings. The leader drives strategic development and execution across multiple work streams to ensure the operational readiness of the largest healthcare workforce in alignment with Inovas mission values quality standards and care transformation priorities. Working collaboratively with executive leadership physicians operational leaders and cross-functional teams this role ensures that new hospitals are designed and activated to deliver safe high-quality efficient and patient-centered care from day one. This role also provides nursing and clinical leadership for new facility development including care delivery model design and delivery workforce readiness regulatory preparedness quality metrics integration emergency preparedness and implementation of enabling technologies and operational processes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads the nursing activation strategy for new hospital facilities ensuring operational clinical technical and nursing linkages for successful opening and stabilization.
  • Leads identification of appropriate staffing levels and identifies and resolves potential gaps prior to opening.
  • Directs onboarding needs of new team members and integration into the activation process across multiple work streams while ensuring on-time and on-budget execution of people into programs and projects.
  • Oversees the design implementation and standardization of care models nursing practice and operational workflows to align with Inova system standards and strategic priorities.
  • Partners with executive leadership service line leaders physicians nursing leaders IT finance facilities and other stakeholders to identify prioritize and implement clinical and operational requirements to integrate into the new facilities.
  • Provides executive leadership in decision-making related to all nursing team members within hospital activation and clinical nursing practice is operationalized based upon evidence-based standards of care regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Deploys change management tools and techniques as a major component of activation.
  • Ensures new hospitals are prepared to meet regulatory accreditation licensure and compliance requirements including standards established by CMS The Joint Commission Magnet and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Embeds quality initiatives metrics and goals for new facilities and monitors performance to ensure safe effective patient-centered and efficient care delivery into care model activation.
  • Ensures team members are prepared for emergency situations and that appropriate clinical escalation coverage and response processes are established prior to opening.
  • Partners with finance teams on business planning and financial modeling related to nursing hours of care service offerings staffing capital and equipment needs for facility activation.
  • Provides regular executive briefings and organizes information for efficient review decision-making and stakeholder alignment.
  • Supports a culture of interprofessional collaboration accountability engagement and excellence across all activation and startup activities.
  • Oversees assigned functional areas to ensure effective performance including strategy execution legal and regulatory compliance stakeholder communication financial stewardship and leadership of upper-level management decisions.



Minimum Requirements:

  • Licensure - Must hold or be eligible for a valid Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia upon start
  • Experience - 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience including 5 years of senior nursing and/or hospital operations leadership experience
  • Education - Masters Degree (MSN) in Nursing or Bachelors Degree (BSN) and Masters degree in either business or health-related field

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated executive nursing leadership experience in hospital development activation opening expansion or major transformation initiatives preferably involving a new hospital or large-scale healthcare facility.
  • Prior experience leading nursing workforce planning and activation for a new facility including staffing models recruitment onboarding orientation competency development and workforce readiness.
  • Current or prior experience in a Chief Nursing Officer Chief Nurse Executive VP Nursing or comparable executive nursing leadership role
  • Experience integrating care model design clinical operations technology facilities and regulatory readiness into a coordinated hospital activation strategy.
  • Track record of leading large-scale transformation and change initiatives involving physicians nursing operations and multiple enterprise functions
