Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Administrator/Controller establishes directs and participates in the provision of assistance to veterans their survivors and dependents in applying for various veterans benefits. Assesses develops and processes claims for benefits from the Department of Veteran Administration Department of Defense and the State of Michigan for veterans and their families. Interviews and assists veterans and their dependents regarding questions on benefits and other issues.
Bachelors Degree in business social work psychology or related field and two years of progressively more responsible experience in benefits counseling and claims preferably in an agency dealing with veterans issues. Prior military service is desirable. Valid Michigan vehicle operators license.
Thorough knowledge of the professional public management techniques involved in budgeting resource management and the ability to identify and implement new best knowledge of the principles and practices of veterans affairs and laws counseling and advocacy for veterans dependents and survivors.
Considerable knowledge of local state and federal laws rules and regulations as they relate to veteran benefits services and programs counseling individuals reviewing case files providing case management basic medical terminology conducting basic legal research and communicating social services programs and standards to veterans dependents and survivors.
Current salary range starting at $28.55/hr progressing to $37.22/hr (7-year progression with benefits)
