Underground Maintenance Mechanic

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors LLC (SIMCO) managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Underground Maintenance Mechanicand join our team located in Carlsbad New Mexico.

This is a USW bargaining unit position. This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.

The Maintenance Mechanic will perform corrective and preventative maintenance on diesel and electric mobile equipment hoisting equipment mining equipment and waste handling equipment at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Candidate will be required to attain and maintain the qualifications and training necessary to perform field maintenance follow all safety procedures regulations and policies and promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Must maintain qualifications and training to perform assigned duties and must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test to qualify and work in a respirator in contaminated areas.

• High School Graduate or Equivalency is required.
• Four (4)years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience in a commercial or industrial environment or four (4) years of industrial maintenance training/education is required.

Trainee pay rate is $37.74 per hour. After all standard qualifications have been met and are maintained the rate of pay is $48.55 with an annual increase in August to $49.76 (2026) per the CBA.
