JOB POSITION: Turfgrass Student Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Plant Science/Computer Science/Aerospace Engineering

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology science retail culinary arts hospitality 1500 management leadership or research grants this student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomonas learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest addition the Foundation administers grants and contracts contributes to campus security and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SUMMARY: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently searching for two undergraduate or graduate student assistants to support an Agriculture Research Project.

This position will assist with one or more of the following activities: farm preparation plant data collection remote sensing data processing machine learning model development plant health assessment algorithm development for precision farming and the use of aerial and ground robots.

The selected students will work under the supervision of Dr. Priti Saxena in the Department of Plant Science.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

  • Farm Preparation
  • Plant data collection
  • Remote sensing data processing
  • Plant health assessment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current Cal Poly Pomona graduate student in good standing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must demonstrate creativity attention to detail and the ability to meet project deadlines
  • Must be able to work in crop field environments as part of research activities.

This position may be considered for internship credit with the approval of the students department chair or internship coordinator.

Preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Majors in Plant Science.
