Unit Overview
Cooper University Health Cares Trauma Program is a high-volume multidisciplinary service dedicated to providing comprehensive care for injured and critically ill patients. As part of a nationally recognized trauma center the Trauma Surgery team collaborates closely with Emergency Medicine Critical Care Surgical Subspecialties Advanced Practice Providers Nursing and Rehabilitation Services to deliver 24/7 trauma and emergency general surgery coverage. The division is committed to excellence in patient care education quality improvement and trauma center verification standards.
Short Description
The Trauma Surgeon provides comprehensive trauma emergency general surgery and surgical critical care services for patients with acute injuries and surgical emergencies.
Responsibilities include:
- Triage
- Resuscitation
- Diagnosis
- Operative intervention
- Critical care management
- Coordination of care from admission through discharge
This role supports Cooper University Health Cares mission of delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Center standards and requirements.
Education Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an accredited General Surgery Residency Program.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program.
Experience Required
- Experience managing trauma and emergency general surgery patients.
- Experience providing care for critically injured patients in acute care or trauma setting.
- Experience performing emergency surgical procedures and managing complex surgical conditions.
- Experience in Surgical Critical Care and intensive care unit management preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.
License/Certification Requirements
- Board Certified in General Surgery.
- Board Certified in Critical Care (Surgical Critical Care).
- Current and unrestricted New Jersey Medical License.
- New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) Registration.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Special Requirements
- Provide trauma and emergency general surgery coverage as assigned by the Division Head.
- Participate in work schedules that include nights weekends holidays and on-call responsibilities.
- Maintain compliance with all requirements necessary to support ACS Trauma Center certification and verification standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records reports billing documentation and correspondence related to professional services rendered.
- Provide compassionate patient-centered care and ensure continuity of care through follow-up treatment or appropriate referrals.
- Comply with all Cooper University Health Care policies medical staff bylaws credentialing requirements and physician contractual obligations.
