Job Summary
Transportation Fleet Technician
Purpose: Diagnose inspect maintain service and general repair district fleet vehicles and transportation equipment including school buses vans and other district-owned vehicles. Ensure all transportation equipment is maintained in a safe reliable and efficient operating condition that supports district operations and student transportation.
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Terms of Employment: 12 Months As Needed
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or the ability to obtain within a district-established timeframe.
- Meet all state requirements for school bus drivers including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within a district-established timeframe.
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience in school transportation preferred.
- Complete required physical exam for Bus Drivers and 20 hours behind the wheel training.
- Knowledge of equipment used in bus maintenance.
- Ability to plan and manage projects.

Functions and Responsibilities
Universal USD 250 Classified Standards
- Support the philosophy mission and goals of USD 250.
- Comply with all student privacy requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions to determine necessary repairs and replacement needs.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled service on district fleet vehicles and transportation equipment.
- Inspect buses and fleet vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
- Repair and maintain gasoline diesel and alternative-fuel vehicles as applicable.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical hydraulic mechanical steering suspension brake and engine systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance repair inspection and service records.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and specialized repair tools.
- Maintain tools equipment and work areas in safe and serviceable condition.
- Assist in managing parts inventory and recommending replacement parts and equipment.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and emergency situations to address immediate safety and operational concerns.
- Assist with preparation of vehicles for required inspections and regulatory compliance reviews.
- Substitute as a bus driver when needed and properly licensed.
- Assist with snow removal special projects or other transportation-related duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or Administration.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions
Level 4 Heavy Work
- Exert 50-100 pounds of force occasionally 25-50 pounds frequently and 10-20 pounds constantly.
- Sit stand walk bend stoop kneel crawl reach climb balance and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Operate district vehicles and equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
- Work in environments with noise vibration dust fumes grease chemicals and vehicle exhaust.
- Adapt to a fast-paced multi-faceted work environment.
- Maintain physical capability to safely perform essential job functions.
