Transportation Design Engineering Intern Summer 2027

ATCS is excited to welcome interns to our 2027 Summer Internship Program! We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated students who are ready to gain hands-on experience build their technical skills and learn from experienced professionals.

The 2027 Summer Internship Program will run from May/June through August 2027.

This internship will support our Transportation Design team in our Timonium MD office.

At ATCS our interns have the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience while contributing to real projects. As a Transportation Design Intern youll work alongside engineers and other professionals on a variety of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects developing your technical skills while gaining firsthand experience in transportation engineering and design.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting engineers with the planning and design of roadway and transportation projects.
• Assisting with the preparation of design plans drawings calculations and other project deliverables.
• Using engineering and design software to support roadway design and plan development.
• Assisting with the collection organization and analysis of project data.
• Supporting design tasks related to roadway geometry grading drainage and other transportation improvements.
• Collaborating with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participating in project meetings and gaining exposure to the day-to-day work of a transportation design team.
• Assisting with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in transportation engineering roadway design and transportation infrastructure.
• Previous coursework related to transportation roadway design or civil engineering design is preferred.
• Previous internship or related experience is a plus but not required.
• Strong analytical problem-solving written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
• Exposure to MicroStation OpenRoads AutoCAD Civil 3D or other engineering/design software is a plus.
